Limited to do list today! Started with a trip to the yards and we put up the hessian wings to the yards. Always an adventure, we have too many chiefs and not enough Indians. However once we completed the task we started looking for a bank as we need to truck the 6 horses to the yards tomorrow morning. We found one that I think that we are going to use, however there is about a 2ft drop from the truck deck to the bank. It's really something that I wouldn't do with my own horses, the alternative is to unload them down the portable cattle loading race. Again something I wouldn't do. Will wait to see what Roderick decides on in the morning. The truck door doesn't open from the inside and the passenger seat doesn't stay upright, however the seat is a minor problem compared to flipping door that won't open without you pressing the opening from the outside and using brute strength to push it open from the inside. Chris the truck driver is an interesting man who has his own way of doing things. It happens fast or not at all and there is never any instructions - we are just supposed to read his mind. My patience ran thin today, especially when Brad was testing banks. He would tell me what to tell Chris and it was clear that Chris didn't trust my directions. Anyway we got there and once back to camp I took 5 to settle my patience back down...
We then had to get fresh water from Emma Gorge - which is part of El Questro.
I gladly jumped in the truck with Brad and Brady, a great excuse to calm down and actually somewhere that I wouldn't get another chance to go to.
Drove in there and it's really a resort for the tourists. A great spot and then according to the sign a 2 hour round trip to the gorge itself and that's without a swim. I was supposed to take 2 litres of water and a first aid kit with me. Well it took me 25min to get there. Maybe 15min there having a swim - not tropical at all. Took me ages before I dived in, and the first kick I was reminded on my groin strain! I doggy paddled back to shore and climbed out. Took my 20min to walk back to the resort. Brad and Brandy had the water organised and shouted me a ice cold drink - bliss. My wallet is still in Netty's car so I was very thankful to them.
Came back to camp to find Roderick had returned from his trip into town. He also had news that Poppy had been taken from ED to ICU which was a good sign and that he has stabilised. Also Wendy and Pete arrived along with Alex a French student who will be at Diggers for 3 months learning about agriculture in Australia.
I finally had a wash in the dam. Feels so good to be clean again and to have fresh clothes on - although you never stay clean for long and the flies don't seem to care if you are clean or dirty. I don't think I've sworn under my breath so much in a long time. I won't miss the flies when I return home that's for sure!
We then took the horses for a ride. Anzac had a bit of a bronc with Alex and he sat well, gave us all confidence that he would be fine during tomorrow's muster. Pluto was up on his toes but soon settled to his usual self. Brady and Brad also took there horses out as well. Brandy might be in for an interesting ride tomorrow as her little horse Cobber frightens easily and usually bucks because of it. Gonna be an interesting ride out tomorrow that's for sure.
Brom cooked a brilliant stew for dinner and again I find myself in bed at 6:30 for a 4am start tomorrow.
