Early start this morning as the guys got organised to head out to Canteen Creek. Went out early on a standardbred who I thought was Con but it turned out it was Rollie. He went really well, getting the hang of going softly and slowly. Came back and swapped back onto Pluto. Again another great ride on this ride trouper.
We then started vaccinating 20 horses for tetanus. This went extremely smoothly. Had a great chat to a couple of Italian/Germans. Interesting journey that they have been on. After that a group of us went out into the 2nd paddock. 30 horses out there and we found 5... we also took a young colt out there, another horse Tom who is losing sight in one eye, and a chestnut TB gelding who isn't doing too well. Hopefully he survives out there. He looked quite happy when we left, but you never know. He's been used to a stabled life so who knows.
Turned out it was Con that I rode tonight. Hacking home he was a little keen to let fly with a back leg. I had Alida riding next to me and it lunged sideways with his teeth open. Took us both by surprise and didn't help my groin strain at all. I had to be a little more weary after that.
So just 7 of us for dinner tonight, a bit of a smaller crowd than the usual 17 lol.
It feels lovely tonight. Currently 22 degrees and has a cooler feeling. Pretty confident it will be a great nights sleep.
If you are curious as to the pic, it's a roast cooking in the fire. To be fair it was cooked in the oven, but finished off on the fire.
