A bit of a sleep in today. Up at 5. Poppy isn't well at all. Hacking cough and a fever - Netty is taking him to Kununurra hospital. Seriously not looking well. We wait with anticipation as to what they do with him. He had been in town for a four day weekend of drinking, smokes like a train and got locked in someone's bedroom... he reckons he climbed out an air conditioning vent... how much is true we will never know - except the drinking part!
We headed to the roadside yards to get the portable loading ramp, then back to Wild Dog yards. We got the raceways organised and took three truck loads of cattle back to Canteen camp. A lot of the cattle had never been confined or seen man before so I'll let you imagine how scared upset and angry they were. Some required more persuasion than others but we got them all loaded and back to camp without incident. We then had to take down the yards and wings. Got all this done before lunch.
Managed to have an hour or two for lunch then headed to a new spot on the other side of the Gibb Valley Road. We have reset the yards up, basically a figure of 8. We run the cattle into the first yard. Once safely in there we push them to the back yard, re open the front one ready to drive more cattle in.
The current plan is we will be using four horses a chopper and a bull buggy. This is planned for Friday.
Tomorrow will be a quieter day, we have to put up the guiding wings in the morning, other than than it's a quiet one. I think we are all keen to find a hose or brave the cold water of the dam. Either way I need (we all need) a wash. Two and a half days without a wash so far... gross but true. Considering the dust/dirt around, I can't tell if I'm getting tanned or if I will go back to white after a bath!
News on Poppy isn't good, he has been flown to Darwin with pneumonia plus head cold, potential alcohol poisoning and some sort of infection. He's in ICU and I've been asked to pray hard for him as the next 48hrs are critical.
Tucked up in bed 6:30...
