Let the mud slides and clinging on for dear life begin . . .
Arrival at sapa, we waited on the mini bus for the other trains for the other people(yep we are on a tour). We got dropped off at a hotel, not the best for breakfast and a shower, I skipped the shower, tried ordering an omelette- finished, a fruit salad- finished, so we got a white baguette with butter, urgh and a couple slices melon. Shortly followed by the couple next to us getting served fresh fruit juices and omelettes and yes of course some words were said by me about such an issue when they later tried to charge teri also on the tour for her hot chocolate as food is included but not drinks, so I butted into the argue telling the guy no we aren't paying a penny for anything, and he just walked away, I definatley think my crazed hair helps me in these situations!
So people congrated in the reception area on our tour, 10 in total, some day trips, some one night homestays, then me and laura two night home stay plus hotel so 4days trekking, I was excited. We decided to take our backpacks as we hardly have enough stuff for four days anyway(well I'm speaking for myself laura has a lot more clothes amongst other bits and bobs).
So off we walked, again up in the mountains no views due to the fog, well views but the bestest views. Once off the main road we got onto our 'trekking trail', but prefer to it the mud slide, it was all down hill, where it was smooth surface caked in mud with the odd rock, crumbing hill face on one side, sheer drop the other. And rain to add to the challenge.
So we slip and slide down, clinging onto the mountain face as it crumbles away as we do, our trainers covered in mud, people falling, the little girls following us with baskets on their backs and flip flops trying to sell stuff helping people who want help down, I refused, I try my best to be manly. Joe slipped and cracked his arse off a stone, he was the first down.
We trekked for a while, different levels of slipperyness and mounds and slides to overcome. Teri and joe taking pics of the sweaty muddy minging messes that we were, maybe the odd vid, so keep an eye out on fb as they maybe appearing on their in the future, what a joke.
We stopped for our dinner, a picnic, white bagutte with a triangle of dairylee, tomatos, cucumber and slices of pear, never foget the pear. I swear another white baguette I will go crazy.
Our day trip people left, which left the 5 of us to trek to our home stay, the route, the same horrendous dangerous trail, if dry would take no time at all, wet, hours and hours longer!
Arrived early at the homestay where we popped on the bikinis and went for a swim in the river, it was a treadmill effect I swam on the spot talking to the others sitting on rocks, teri ventured to the other side and back to find it was indeed rockier.
After we got back we got our home stay food which was gorgeous, no baguettes. Also drank shots of rice wine and I am pleased we were lucky to have such fun people on our tour. Which I might actually cross paths with in future travelling, thailand and oz at the same time.xx
