We leave Bowen today after having spent a quality 2.5 weeks catching up with family and friends.
Whilst in Bowen we managed to fit in; 2 weddings, a trip to Eungella, an attempt at kitesurfing, a day at Airlie Beach and a day at Monte's.
3 nights were spent at Eungella Dam in the company of Kaye and Dooley ( Doug's parents), Campbell and Justine (family friends), and Glen (yep, brother Glen). Our 4 camper trailers lined the dam bank.
We kayaked on the dam and had a camp oven cook-off, where it was pork vs lamb. Dougie managed to get a little creative with the damper, producing a strawberry jam damper and an olive, capsicum and cheese damper - not too bad either!
We all ventured to Finch Hatton Gorge, within Eungella National Park, for a stroll through the rainforest. We were led to a waterhole which beckoned Dougie and I for a swim despite the ridiculously cold temperature. Lunch was enjoyed at Eungella Chalet before returning back to camp.
Glen, Doug and I spent the following morning in search of platypus at Broken River - no platypus but definitely leeches. Eww! I am questioning whether platypus actually exist there at all or whether it's simply a ploy to lure overly-eager tourists, such as ourselves, out of bed at a ridiculous hour of the morning. Hmm.... They win!
Our day spent at Monte's ( a secluded resort 1hr from Bowen) was so special. Dougie and I spent the morning fishing and kayaking between Monte's and Gloucester Island. The catch of the day going to Dougie with his Coral Trout and Spangled Emperor. We paddled back to Monte's in time for lunch which was enjoyed with Kaye and Dooley.
We waved goodbye to Dougie's parents today after an enjoyable couple of weeks and headed towards Cardwell.
