Travelling across to Hokitika on the west coast we decided to go via Arthurs pass. We were told it is one of the most scenic drives in the country which we found quite hard to believe as we'd been on so many amazing roads already. It was quite stunning. Travelling through large flats in between huge mountains and green forests we drove amongst the clouds to the township of Arthur's Pass. Everything but a small pub was closed their so options were limited. Another evening of food, pints and Olympics. At least we aren't missing out too much :) Being quite dark we couldn't really explore in order to find a good spot to park up and sleep so we ended up sleeping at a camp site which happened to be next to a railway. Clever! Every now and then we'd hear the very old and very loud steam engines slowly crawl past us during the night but being the lazy bums we are, it wasn't much of a problem. Waking up to some amazing mountainous views we started the second half of the drive to Hokitika. Our first stop was Death Corner where we were harassed by an annoying but beautiful Kia. Looking like a parrot and definatly as mischievous he started to chew away at Percy's rubber bits. Seeing this we jumped in and drove off in an attempt to get the van eater off but quite remarkably he stayed on for a while. Quite impressive. Driving the windy roads through the clouds we finally made it to the west coast and some precise directions got us to Sandra's house.
