My first train ride with a roomette. The roomette is two recliner chairs facing each other. They fold flat into each other creating a single bed. You seriously do not want the bed put down until you are ready to sleep because there is no room once that is done. You can throw your feet over the side and stand up but that is about it. There are larger rooms that fit a full size bed however it is a bit too costly for one person. The roomette is actually for two the second person sleeps on the top bunk. You could not pay me to sleep up on that top bunk. The lower bed however is quite comfy they throw a mattress on it and I slept very well. However when not sleeping I spent my time in the dining car or the observation car the roomette is a little too much like sitting in a closet and the view is better from the top deck.
The couple that shared a dinner table with me decided to share that they thought I should not be going to New Orleans by myself and I might get killed. Lovely dinner conversation don't you think. I asked if that might be an over statement and they said no walking alone in New Orleans will get you killed. I am going anyway.

Karen Cobb Before his stroke, Ty and I took a vacation trip with our friends/bandmates John & Susie, we took the train from Fullerton to Santa Fe. Ty and I had a roomette, and our friends had the roomette across the hall. I'm not sure if we flipped a coin, but I got the lower bunk and Ty got the upper. It was pretty tight in there with the two of us! Our friend John is 6'5"... I have no idea how he fit in their roomette. A great trip though!
Thomas You Go Cindy!!!! You got to visit New Orleans for the Jazz alone.
