In the afternoon I took a short tour which included a visit to the capitol. The Austin capitol building is amazing. When you drive down Congress street the capitol is at the end of the street. The pink granite building is gorgeous inside and out. The picture is looking up from the first floor to the top of the dome. Circular staircases wind up to the top.
One person told me that the Texas meets for five months every two years (must fact check). That sounds like a very good gig. The Texans say their theory is the less time they are together the less damage they can do.
The University of Austin is massive and the housing and other supporting offices stretch for miles. There are kids everywhere in these locations. I tended to drift away. Austin has great museums but aside from the LBJ library I preferred to be outside so did not see as much as I could.
The tour guide is a aspiring singer/songwriter. I gave some of the songs a listen but have not gotten to the podcasts yet. www.jasonweems.com. Let me know what you think.
