Carlsbad Caverns National Park is a United States National Park in the Guadalupe Mountains in southeastern New Mexico. Carlsbad Cavern includes a large cave chamber, the Big Room, a natural limestonechamber . When you descend into the cavern the first thing you notice is the coolness and the dark. Although the cavern is lighted it is sporadic throughout the cavern. They switched the lights off for a second and when they do you cannot see a thing. The Caverns is a different kind of church. I walked most of the path alone and in the quiet. It is so peaceful and so silent. For me it emptied my mind of anything else but the beauty of the place and the quiet of that moment. The formations sometimes look like statutes or familiar structures. The soda straw stalactites are narrow and very pointed. Standing under them you have to wonder do they fall because I am standing right below them. A bit of a drive but worth it.
