Guiding through the bayou on an airboat is like nothing that can be described. The environment is so very unique. The Lilly pads in the various stages of new growth and old growth look like a village from Dr. Seuss. There are so many different types of plants that you just cannot take it all in. Frogs, butterflies and the biggest spiders I have ever seen. The boat stopped with a web right above our heads and a huge spider above. We did see some gators, not too many, but some. As the weather turns colder they slow down and hibernate more and are less interested in eating and apparently entertaining the tourist. They did point out mounds where the gators bury their eggs. The sex of the gator is determined by the temperature of the nest and the entire clutch is either male or female. I bet you did not know that. The guide scooped up a small gator right out of the bayou and a few of us held the gator, only the women were willing. Hmmm. I don't have a picture to prove it so you just have to trust me that I held a gator - a baby gator.
