So I made it safely to my campus in Paderno Del Grappa, Italy on sunday. I've been here a couple days, and I just absolutely love it. There are 150 students from 24 different universities, some of which being Kansas, Alabama, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, etc. We are studying at a place named Instituto Filippini, and it is a shared campus with a prestigious Italian boarding school for high school students. It's a VERY small town, which really helps students interact with the locals and experience the culture.
I've met some really amazing people, and I am optimistic about creating great friendships. I think it's really great because everyone here is either studying business or journalism, so it's nice to be surrounded by people with common values and goals (for the most part). It's kind of strange too because since it is SO much smaller than anything I have experienced before you always see the same people..all the time. I feel like I'm back in high school or at a summer camp, but a little bit more mature, haha.
Classes are awesome too. I don't think I have ever felt this excited for school before. And if you know me, I bet you're thinking that's hard to believe, but it's true. I'm taking all business courses (obviously), and not only is there an extreme relevance to my future career aspirations, but I feel as if the professors are VERY qualified for the position and each and every one of them already has motivated and persuaded me to succeed beyond my capabilities. Honestly, I could go on for hours about each professor and the environment of the classrooms and how amazing and different it is, but I'll spare you and I both the time. But basically, I couldn't be more excited about it.
So I have one quick story. Tonight I was up in one of the rooms hanging out with a few people, and all of a sudden we heard this loud techno music, which sounded like a dance party. We wondered what the heck was going on, and so we went downstairs and followed the sound. There was a room like underneath the dorm, and when we walked in there was a bunch of the Italian high schoolers welcoming us and grabbing us into the room. It was a total disco scene. Dark lighting, loud techno music, kids dancing wildly in the middle of the room, bar in the corner, and old furniture. It was HILARIOUS. So the four of us that went down there (Jared, Jessica, Heidi, and me) stayed and danced a little bit and talked with the students for a little bit. There professor was there, and apparantly they come down there often and dance and smuggle some beer in there (it's a dry campus and you cant drink inside the gates). Some students spoke English better than others, and they were incredibly friendly and were telling us about how they have curfew at 930 and have to go to bed at 10, and how the girls smoke in the bathrooms because they arent allowed to smoke during class or something. Typical high school stuff. I thought it was so funny because it was not something that was expected at this institution. After they left we started telling everyone about it, so I think we are having another dance party tomorrow nigfht, and a bunch of American students are gonna come join. I'm stoked.
Well thats it. I need to go to bed so I can get up for a fun filled day tomorrow. Ciao amicos!
