I just got back yesterday from a long weekend in Ljubljana, Slovenia. It was such a random place to go to, but I ended up loving it (of course, right?). There were 6 of us that went (Jess, Heidi, Kristin, Katy, Ryan, and I), and we took a 4 hour train ride on thursday night. We got in at 2am, so you can imagine how tired I was! We met a girl from Portugal on the train who was extremely nice and helpful to us. We realized none of us had any minutes on our phones to call the apartment company so that we could check in and everything. So our new friend, who was visiting her twin sister in Slovenia, let us borrow her phone when we got off the train. We met her sister and all of her sister's friends, and they led us to the bus station where the taxi was going to pick us up. If it wasn't for them, I don't know what we would have done.
We arrived at our apartment and it was sooo neat! The walls were bright blue, yellow, and green. I swear, I could picture myself living in that apartment if I lived in Slovenia. It was a 5 minute walk from the city center, and yet it felt like it was a safe and remote area that it was located in. I just loved it. We even had a television...and it had MTV2 and Cartoon Network. It was the first time I had watched TV since I've been here...and you better believe I watched my cartoons!!!!
Heidi Katy and I went to bed when we got there, but the other three ended up going out to a club and not getting home until 6am. I was so happy I stayed in. The only annoying thing was everyone slept until 12:30...so by the time we all got ready it was as if we had wasted half the day! Jess Heidi and I decided we were going to go buy some groceries at the market so we could make eggs and have some snack food (which proved to be a VERY smart idea). After Heidi and Jess made brunch (because we all know I can't cook), we went and walked around. It turned out we found some really neat shopping areas and decided to go shopping! Molly was in the shopping mood, which was probably not the best thing that could have happened to me...because I ended up buying some gifts for some people....including myself as well.
When we got back to the apartment we all showered and got ready to go out for the night. I showed people what I had bought and when I made a comment about spending money everyone gave me a hard time saying that I hadn't bought myself anything or hardly spent any money in comparison to everyone else. But the whole thing is, I don't feel like I NEED to spend money on myself. I've noticed that a lot of people here have the attitude that money grows on trees, and that it really doesn't matter what they spend their money on because it's not something they need to worry about. And I mean, that's okay for them, but I personally don't really agree with that. I don't know, I just don't want to get to the point where I feel like I can do whatever I want and then expect money from my parents. I guess it's just not the way I am...and it's hard to be around people who are the exact opposite. There are some people who have openly admitted they dont appreciate their parents or what they give them...and it makes me sad. The only person this weekend I was with that is not like that and that I admire when it comes to attitude is Heidi. She's so grounded...I just love her.
ANYWAYS... back to the story...I kind of trailed off.
We went out to a club called Global that night at like midnight. It was on the 6th floor of a mall, and it was a really neat setting. It was really trendy and contemporary, and you could tell it was more upscale than other clubs. There was a dance floor in the middle playing techno music, and I danced for a little bit until I realized techno is extremely hard to dance to, haha.
Katy, Heidi and I left at like 1:30am. I wasn't really feeling the club. I was sober, and the environment was really smoky and crowded and a little chlosterphobic. Besides, I was exhausted, and I just really didn't want to be there.
The next day we got up and Heidi, Ryan, Jess, Kristin and I went to the Ljubljana castle. It was really interesting. It was raining, which kind of stunk, but we got over it. We climbed up this spiral staircase for like 15 minutes to the top of the viewing tower. It overlooked the entire city, and was breathtaking. Heidi and Ryan were scared of heights, but they both made it, and it was a big step for them. The only nervewrecking thing was the fact there were no handrails or walls to protect you fvrom falling off the side. There were like small stones, but they were only as high as like your waist. AND the ground was wet from the rain...so we had to be extra careful.
After that we watching a 3-D movie on the history of the city and the castle. I didn't understand half of it, and I wished I had paid more attention in history class. Oh well...I'm trying!!!!
We went shopping again...and that was fun. Heidi and I walked into Zara, which is like a nicer H&M... only with the intention of getting Jess, who was buying a dress she had wanted from the previous day. Heidi asked a saleswoman if they had any long t shirts to wear with leggings, and the woman told us they were downstairs. Now, Heidi and I had no idea there was even a downstairs in this place. We had spent all yesterday upstairs, and when we went downstairs we both looked at each other in awe. Needless to say the next 2 hours were devoted to trying on clothes, and we both left with pretty big purchases...and we have no idea how it happened. It was one of our finer and funnier moments.
Then we got ready and went to this authentic mexican restaurant called "La Cantina". SOOOOOO amazing!!! Heidi and I had a glass of San Gria, and we split a bacon artichoke salad, chile con carne soup, and a side of beans. Oh man was it good!! It made me realize I don't miss American food...I miss Mexican food!!! Our waiter was really cool too. He bought us all shots of Tequila and didnt even charge us for the San Gria. I didn't take the shots of tequila, but the people that did said it was really good quality.
Our waiter even ended up coming out with us after he was done with work. We went across the street to a pub, and the second we walked in I knew it was going to be a funny night. The place was packed with guys, and so as soon as we walked in it was like they just flocked to the girls. It made me laugh. The best part of the night was this bachelor party with 15 guys from London. The bachelor was dressed as Superman, and he even had the fake plastic hair. The rest of the guys were dressed in either a green jersey or a red jersey, and they spent the night challenging each other to different tasks such as running around the street naked, lying on the floor with their arms and legs in the air, last one to put their thumbs on the table has to drink, etc. It was soooo entertaining...and the fact that I was sober made it that much better. I hung out with these guys for a while...and I had the time of my life. Heidi and I are going to London for St Pattys Day and we are actually going to meet up with these guys. I can't wait!!
Heidi and I left early to go to bed because we were leaving at like 10amm the next day to catch the train. Everyone else went out to the clubs again and stayed out until 6 in the morning. When they came home they were extremely loud and it was kind of annoying, but we got through it. When Heidi and I were leaving the pub though, these creepy Slovenian and Italian guys stopped us and were trying to talk to us. They wouldnt leave us alone so Heidi just told them we were married and that "Jake is going to be really mad at you Molly". SO yeah, it worked..hahaha. Man I love that girl
The next day we came back to Italy. Everytime I have come back here it feels more and more like home. I just LOVE it. Heidi and I had a great conversation on the train home about our friends back at school. It made me miss all my girls sooo much. I feel like I have been really bad at keeping in touch. Part of the reason is because I felt like I just needed to get away from everything and do my thing over here, and I'm kind of used to just leaving and moving around and doing that. But I think about them a lot, and I hope they know how much I love them and miss them. The conversation made me really excited to see everyone again.
SO all in all, I had a great weekend!
:)
