MeznG. In the air, on the road, river or sea again
Princess Cays is a private beach on the southern end of the island of Eleuthera. The island itself is 100 miles long and 2 miles wide and Princess Cays occupies an area of 30 acres which features over a mile and a half of shoreline. It is pristine and beautiful. The water is that gorgeous turquoise blue and clear. The ship docks about a mile off shore and so we take a tender to the shore. We have booked snorkel equipment, floats and also later in the day we will take a coastal boat ride. As we were on one of the first few tenders the beach is not too crowded so it's easy to get our sun lounges. The water is cooler than I expected but once we are in its beautiful. Snorkeling is good and there are plenty of colorful fish and some unusual coral formations. The fish vary from very tiny to quite large. Glenn returned to the beach to relax in the sun but I took my float, a large rubber mat like a thick yoga mat. It's so relaxing floating around in the beautiful calm water. Lunch is a bbq cooked on shore. It's self serve buffet style. After lunch we have a bit more of a look around from the look out to see the rest of the island. Apparently there are about 13000 inhabitants of the island, most of whom are on the other side. There is a viewing platform where you can watch the schools of fish swimming around. The water is so clear that they are easy to see and their colors are spectacular. We return our hired gear and then go for another swim before our boat ride. There are about 20 of us that take a ride along the coast. Our guide tells us the history of the Bahamas and we see the lighthouse on the southern most corner of the island of Eleuthera. It is here also that the Caribbean and the Atlantic Ocean meet. The white beaches stretch for miles and is a popular spot for weddings although it's quite remote. On the return trip we are entertained by a Viv Richards look alike and another young Bahamian. The singing is Harry Belafonte'ish very easy listening. It's an enjoyable trip and we hear about the festival that takes place at Christmas and New a Year. It's time to return to the ship, but the line for the tender is sooooo long. Apparently they had problems with 2 of the tender boats so it caused a headache getting everyone back. Some people were getting quite agitated as it was hot but really there was no issue, they were not going to leave us behind! Back on board we took our stuff back to our room, change out of our bathers and headed to the Seaview bar for a drink before showering and changing to go to the early show. Tonight it was a comedian who was very funny. Dinner for 2 tonight as we weren't given the option to share. It's laundry night so we (Glenn) put the washing going and go back to our room to start watching a movie. We watched Room. A story about a girl who was kidnapped when she was 17 and kept in a garden shed for 7 years. In that time she had a child and spent the first 5 years in this room until their eventual escape. Unfortunately I fell asleep but Glenn watched the whole movie between checking on the washing and drying. It was 12.30 am before we actually called it a night.
