MeznG. In the air, on the road, river or sea again
Our night at the Hilton was uneventful. I slept very well but Glenn was not so settled. This morning before breakfast we have our bags ready to be collected by cruise staff. After breakfast we go for a walk to explore the local area. Directly across from the hotel is the cruise port and we can clearly see the Royal a Princess waiting for us. It's not a very exciting walk as most of the shops are not open until later and we were not interested in coffee just yet. At 11.30am we meet in the restaurant to be shuttled to the ship. It is chaos at the port with the number of people waiting to board and it would seem extra security. The process didn't take long and we were boarding the ship. Our cabin is compact but we do have a balcony. The ship is huge with capacity for more than 4000 passengers and 1500 crew. After the compulsory safety briefing it's time to set sail for the Bahamas. We have a drink at the Seaview Bar as we leave Fort Lauderdale and then return to the cabin to await the arrival of our luggage. We have selected anytime dining which means we go to one of 2 restaurants when we are ready to eat. It's quite busy as it's the first night so we adjourn to the crooners bar for a pre dinner cocktail and beer while we wait. At 7.30pm we go to the Concerto Restaurant and join a table of 8. A family of 3 from England, a Scottish couple and a man from North Carolina. It's an interesting mix and so the conversations are quite varied. It's nice to sit with different people and hear their stories. Dinner is delicious as we expected and enjoyed by all. Long after the meal us completed we are still enjoying the company of the others. We are still catching up from the long trip over so it's off to bed for us.
