MeznG. In the air, on the road, river or sea again
We are due to arrive in port today at 12noon so it's a easy morning. It's very humid this morning. Glenn us on Laundry duty (he loves it) so between the wash and dry cycle he goes to the fitness Centre and I head up stairs to walk around the deck and use the outside equipment. This morning because we have time we shower first and then head to the dining room for breakfast. Here you get served instead of buffet style so it's a bit easier. There are 7 people at the table this morning, all Americans from different states including Arizona, California and Florida. For some reason the conversation often comes around to the venomous snakes that we have in Australia. We have a light lunch before getting off the ship. Bonaire is located in the lower Southern Caribbean and is one of 6 Dutch islands and part of the Leeward Islands. Once on shore there is a number of stalls offering tours of the island etc. Today we are going to snorkel so a water taxi to Klein Bonaire seems like a good option. It's about a 15minute boat ride across the bay to this uninhabited island which is surrounded by a coral reef and clear water. Unfortunately it's a bit cloudy and windy so the visibility is not as great as we might hope. The water is so clear and the sand is so silky. The water is refreshing and we are about to give our new snorkels and masks their maiden voyage. Once over the coral reef there is a sandy sparse area with a few fish and then the sand drops away and the water becomes very deep and there are more fish and plants. Floating around at the surface and watching these fish go about their business is fascinating. Some are digging in the sand, some are darting in and out of the rocks. Some are alone and others are in groups. I have the camera today and while not confident that the photos will be very good I happily snap away. I was so excited to see a turtle swim beneath me and manage to get one photo. That was my goal, to see a turtle! After about an hour in the water we go back on the bravo and soon after the taxi returns to take us back to the ship. After a shower we go back on shore to walk around and look at the city of Kralendijk. It's quaint, colorful and an interesting mix of architecture. Besides diving and snorkeling, this island, more specifically Goto Meer which is a salt water lagoon is home to a large number of Flamingos. From January to July the lagoon turns pink during the Flamingo breeding season as 15000 birds return each year to nest. To access wifi in this city all you need to do is buy a drink, too easy right? Glenn is more than happy to put down a few beers in the name of technology so again we catch up with emails and a bit of Face Booking. All aboard tonight at 6.30pm just as the sunsets. It's dinner, a show and a movie tonight. The Revenant is screening as I am writing this. I watched about 30 minutes and then left them to it. Not really my kind of movie. Early start in our last port of call Aruba tomorrow at 7am.
