MeznG. In the air, on the road, river or sea again
This morning we dock in Grenada at 7am but we are only here for half a day. A Holland America Ship is also in Port and docked next to our ship it looks very small. Grenada is situated at the southern edge of the Grenadines in the southeastern Caribbean Sea, northwest of Trinidad and Tobago, northeast of Venezuela. It is currently the dry season. It's quite hot. After breakfast we get off the ship and look for a local tour operator to take us to the suggested areas of interest. As we enter the terminal building there is a red line painted on the floor and all the tour operators are obviously not allowed to cross this line to approach you. We join 4 others today for a island tour. We are all Aussies, one couple from Caloundra and the others are from the HAL ship and they live near Brisbane. Our drive/ guide is Jude. We drive through small villages in the province of St Georges and stop at a roadside spice market. Grenada exports spices to all parts of the world. We are shown different spices and fruits and how they grow and there uses. It's actually very interesting as its one thing knowing the spices but another thing to know where they come from. Unfortunately getting these spices back into Australia is probably not possible. Next stop is at Annandale Falls. It's a short walk down to the base of the falls. The water cascades down the rocks about 10 meters into a deep pool. There is a $2 charge to enter the park and then various vendors selling spice necklaces, ladies with bananas and flowers on their heads and a guy playing the guitar and singing line the path all looking for $$. At the base of the falls there is a group of young men who for a fee will free fall or dive into the pool from the top of the falls. No takers from the people down there with us. No way was Glenn going to pay $10 to see a guy jump off a cliff! Back at the top we manage to access a few moments of WiFi , a chance to just access a bit of what's happening outside of our bubble. On we go to through the rain forest to the top of the mountain. Here there is a crater filled with water ( seems familiar) and a lush rainforest complete with monkeys! Not the aggressive types like in other places but if you happen to be carrying a banana you will be very popular. We didn't see the banana frenzy but we did see 2 monkeys returning to the trees to await their next feed. Jude took us to another part of the island to get a great view of the bay and our ship. Glenn noticed a cricket match going on. Just happened to see a wicket fall so snapping photos of the future West Indies team when Jude said that this was the prison! After a drive through town that is very quiet because it is Sunday we go to a beautiful beach. It's so hot that we and another couple Pete and Miriam from Caloundra decide to stay on for a swim in this crystal clear water. Jude returns the other couple to their ship and returns to wait for us. For $25 each we feel we have had good value today and we are back on the ship in plenty of time before the 1.30pm sail away time. After a shower and some lunch we return to the room for a siesta ( 2hours ) amazing! Ready to go again, we have drinks at the Bellini bar and go to the early show which is an illusionist (????? Still trying to work it out). Dinner with another interesting group and then we went upstairs to watch Spectre on the big screen under the stars. Great finish to a fun day.
