So today is Sunday and depite our plans to leave Jaiselmer today, we are staying for a few more days due to inability to move very far....
Anyhow....back two days and CAMEL TREK!!! Firstly thanks so so so much to Linda, Goom, Elliott, Elsa and Alex who paid for us to go on it....we really had the most amazing time and opted to go for the more expensive, less touristic trek so thank you!!!
Left at 7.30am in a jeep headed right into the desert....very bumpy ride, until Rosalie Barnes in true styley took the wheel and drove the rest of the way....very funny, i think the man was a little shocked that a woman would even ask to drive! So me and Rose in the front seats....driver chilling at the back....girl power!!
Arrived and met the camels....Rose had 'David', me 'Loola' and our guide 'Badir' his camel was called 'jezal'....so him and a boy on one and us each on one....trekked for approx 3 hours where we stopped for lunch....camp fire...chai tea, then a kind of veg curry and chapatti all cooked from scratch....amazing.....another 2 hours of trekking....VERY sore legs....we were expecting to meet up with some english boys and australian girls at lunch, but they had eaten 'bhang cookies' and had gone 'crazy' as Badir would say!
So arrived at camp....camp meaning....a camp fire and sand dunes....just beautiful!! Our boy (mr helper) went and found some female goats and milked them for our chai, and then supper was made whilst we went and watched the sunset...beauty! On arrival back to camp we saw more locals had arrived....fun times....so had a chat, and then brought a beer, and some rum from a man....rum chai....beauty....apparently the tourists don't really sit with the locals normally, but we were well in there joking and everything! Ate supps....same as lunch, and then Mr Rocket (Badirs friend) and Badir got the camels ready for our night run....9pm moon is out, stars are amazing....riding on camels through the Thar desert....wow....Rose was with Rocket, me with Badir.....and then they began to run......wow.....the bumpiest ride ever....being a rider and all, Rose hung on with her legs....i am not trained in this style of holding on, so i was bouncing around to the EXTREME.....when suddenly....BOOM....off me and Badir and then the saddle on top slid...Hahah Rose waited as it all went silent, and then my (always exaggerated) groans were heard and all was well! We headed back to camp slowly slowly....very funny, after earlier telling us that desert medicine was the best...Badir quickly swallowed ibuprofen!! It is the first time he has ever in his 13 years of work fallen off of a camel with a tourist, and he has begged us not to tell anyone! We all sat around the fire, and Badir and Rocket were laughing hysterically! Fun times....the best day! We then all slept under the stars...we saw the biggest shooting star, that just looked like a ball of fire....amazing! Then we saw 4 others....wowsa!
Awoke at 7am, missed the sunrise, and ate some porridge....got back onto the camels....a painful experience for us all...Rose's aching legs, Badirs bad arm, and my back with every jolt the pain intensified....anyhow arrived at a lunch stop 2 hours later, where our trek ended....Badir said that we could go on, but i had had enough....literally was the most amazing experience...this blog does not do it justice but we have limited internet time....So Jaiselmer until Tuesday, and then onto Jodphur....Rajesthan is HAAAATTTT!!!!
Lots and love to you all
