Up early yet again.. Had breakfast at the Brooklyn diner. I had american pancakes, 3 huge fluffy ones, Jordan had these with strawberries and Canadian bacon. Martin had French toast with maple syrup. Three absolutely huge chunks. We all felt like three big piggies after this.
When we got out the New York half marathon was on.
We caught the subway from 59 th street and got off at rector street. We walked to the world trade centre . This has the 9/11memorial under it. After more airport security, belts etc etc we were allowed in. There are 2 enormous waterfalls which are square and occupy the footprints of the two towers which fell. So huge. Around the edge there is a continuous brushed steel plaque with all the names if the people who died etched into the steel.. There were a lot of names. The waterfalls were deep and fell into a large square in the middle. A fitting tribute which made me tearful . There was a sort of peaceful feel to the area with people hugging each other. A rose was placed in the name of anyone who died who had a birthday that day.
We then walked via some designer shops such as century 21 an upmarket TK max playing music over the pa. I bought a guess belt for $17 dollars. We had a coffee and we shared a pretzel donut yum yum. We found chambers sports for Jordan who bought an imanginary tee shirt.
We then walked to Brooklyn bridge. An awe inspiring metal bridge built in 1875.
It joins manhatten to Brooklyn. We walked halfway and then stepped over to Brooklyn. Great views back to the city and to the Hudson River. People had left padlocks with their names on tied to the metal parts of the bridge. There were thousands of them...very wired. Jordan tied a love note to Shola aaaah..
Really tired now, a long bridge....
We caught the subway to 59th and Lexington. We found Bloomingdales. Very much like Harrods. They had a magnolia bakery where we bought some exclusive cup cakes. Went into urban outfitters and found the apple store. The apple store had a huge clear Perspex box outside with the apple logo suspended. A clear lift descended into the store where hundreds of people were having apple workshops and accessing free wi fi.
From there we went to Central Park and found the zoo. This was closed as it was 4.30. We also found the skating rink which has featured in many films. Had a foot long hot dog there.
Now tired we walked back to the hotel where I collapsed. The boys went out to a Wendy's whilst I slept,
A great last day but so tiring.
