Day 4 Cape Canaveral and coco Beach
Not up so early to day. We all needed to have a longer sleep. Had all you can eat breakfast at 9.30 and did not leave for Cape Canaveral and Space station until 11. We had to go along the 528 toll road. Oh the joys of tolls.
There were quite a few of these with tolls costing $1 to $2. I mistook a turn off which had a toll on it and found we were in the middle of no where. The toll was not manned and we had to put 50c in change in. Ok so far the we discovered we could not get back on East so had to go back the way we came. This slip road also had a toll. By this time we were totally out of change so i threw a dollar note in. As we passed the traffic light it did not change to green and and a beeping alarm sounded. We felt like criminals but no one stopped us. Poor Martins face !!!
We then had to find a junction that got us back on th ether side. Eventually after paying yet more tolls we were able to come off and get on the right side of the road. More tolls where i went in the lane that said exact change. As we had a dollar and that was the cost we put the dollar in a basket and yet again the light did not turn green and we went through... Phillips the arch toll criminals!!!
Eventually we arrived at Cape Canaveral. The journey showed that much of the landscape was palm trees and swamps. As we arrived at 3pm we decided to take the bus tour which takes you into a restricted zone. The
size of the launch sites has to be seen to be believed and the roads
the rockets would be transported was very wide. The bus took us to an area where the actual space rocket Apollo 14 was housed. Again the size amazed me. There were some presentations and we saw the room where the original launches would have been controlled along with a count down clock.
We then got on the Coach and went back and saw the Atlantis shuttle. This was impressive.
There was the usual shop, cafe etc and we caught the bus back to where the car was. Still time to find Coco Beach which was quite near. Turning out of the space area Matin wanted a scenic route and we turned right and found ourselves in a restricted area!! We were not arrested but allowed to make our way out......
The drive to Coco Beach was hard but had good views as it was all various islands joined to gether. When we got to the area we could not work out how to find the beach. Stopping at a hotel car park we were told that there are few car parks for the beach. Hotels went to the very edge of the beach and there was no promenard or ice cream ploaces. We eventually found a car park but it was not easy to find. As the temperatures were high , in the middle eighties, we were all a little frayed. Walking on the beach it was miles of white sand and little else. As it was the Atalantic Ocean it was not warm and waves were high. Jordan went in. We stayed for an hour but tiring did the long drive home. There is so much space in Florida.
We were all so tired that we flopped down and retired to bed. p>
