29.04.11 Kate & Wills Wedding Day
We woke up at 5.30am and watched the Royal Wedding from our very comfortable bed. After the 'Balcony Kiss' we went down to join the others for breakfast.
Today is the day that Jo and Michael will join us, they've already landded last night around midnight and have established themselves in their 53rd Street flat. They phoned to say that they had been to a diner for breakfast and ordered an all American Breakfast with eggs 'sunny side up'. I was chatting to Jo when she stopped abruptly...she had knocked over her coffee and smashed a glass...she is her mother's daughter.
Lindy and Stan joined us for our metro journey uptown. A ticket tout sold them tickets for 2 dollars, instead of 2.50, and we proceeded to The Rock. We met Mike and Joanne there and went as a group. We got some great photos of us all on the 'girder' It was such a clear day that the views were spectacular. We stayed for ages just looking and enjoying.
After a lunch under The Rock we proceeded to Central Park and into a toy shop. We snaked our way around and up to the top floor following Jo. Then we came to the Big Piano as used in the film. So, as you will see from the photos we were obliged to play a few tunes.
Next we hired bikes for 2 hours and cycled round Central Park. This is an enormous and tranquil place. Oh and did I mention fairly hilly if you are cycling. To get there from the bike hire shop we had a heart stopping 2 block cycle through the streets of New York. The bikes were fun, very heavy, mine had a basket on the front, which did cause me to fall off whilst staionary, of course the others thought it was highly amusing. Michael bought a very nice looking ice lolly which fell apart , melted and caused him to have blue fingers. We giggled our way around the park, but the funniest was when 2 police cars suddenly turned on their sirens and raced up behind us, we were in the bike lane, but Lindy had wobbled into the horse and carriage lane (now being used by the police) She was merrily peddling along in front of us when the police sirens paused momentarily whilst they shouted loudly through their speakers 'Get out the way'. I had to stop as I was laughing so much but Lindy had no idea what had happened and continued on her journey.
We all stopped at Strawbery Fields and Mike and I went out of the park to the place where John Lennon was shot outside his apartment. Something I wanted to do for some reson or other.
That done, we walked to 53rd Street to Jo and Mikesw flat so that Jos bag of wedding clothes could be transfered to our hotel as it is next to the reception. We metroed it home, and joined Geoff and Jackie for aperitifs on their room balcony at our hotel. It was a lovely sunny evening though quite windy. We enjoyed the moment then walked accross the road to the iItalian Deli Restuarant for supper. There were 13 of us , it was a lovely evening. We made a toast to Princess Katherine and her Prince, The Duke of cambridge.
