Journey to San Diego
On the road again on our favourite 5am National Exdpress for Heathrow. Thanks again Mike, where would we be without our door to door service eh????
Well, we learnt that getting out of the country on an American Airways flight is a pretty tricky thing, supassed only by being able to enter the US once the plane has completed it's flight...oh and getting onto the internal hopper flight from LA to San Diego even though we were already checked in and had no luggage was equally challenging.
At Heathrow we had to complete an on line visa document, although I'd already completed it on line form for the airline. Then we were passed to the check in, were searched and then given boarding cards. Passports and boarding cards were checked again as we entered the 'check in corridoor', then passports, bags, boarding cards, shoes, socks, and questions in order to get into the seating area for boarding the plane...it doesn't help that Damian's knee makes the machines go off so they always search him at every point.
Coming in to the country was just the same....we all were checked 3 times, then on the third body search we lost damians belt...they didn't even care!!!!! Lindy you won't believe the airport toilets at LA. They are only a third of a door. When you sit on the seat I'm sure you can see up to your knee from the outside...not good!!!!
If you are 50 - 60, fat, small, white, black, skinny male or grey then you can work for American Airlines.....it seems they have some sort of equality of opportunity in the work place going on. Damian had to help our lovely rotund smiling airhostess up after she had reached into the lowest depths to get our final trolley stocked and couldn't get up!!!!! She giggled and said she hated the 3rd meal run cos all the food was stored in low awkward places!!!! There was the large black air hotess who I don't think would have fitted in the gap to even try to get the food out, a third who was pear shaped, grey and managed to hand out the food to her isle without any eye contact, not forgetting the skinny grey male who nodded at everyone, or the very tall mixed race lady who galloped up and down the isles. However all these dwindled into insignificance when the first class airhostess appeared...she was much younger, 45 - 50, a good size 18 bussoms hosted and upstanding, with mid length nearly permed hair and a jacket that used to fit when she was a size 14 wearing a bright red lipstick smile!!!! I couldn't have cast a comedy better if I'd have tried.
After 24 hours of travelling we arrived at Geraldine's...woweee what a lovely new condo she lives in. We're privileged to have views of San Diego harbour, airport, Amtrak Railway, and the city from our tenth floor situation. There's a lovely communial pool, gym, sauna, jacuzzi, and relaxing media suite for the residents use. I haven't met anyone else using the facilities at the same time as us yet.
It's blowing a gale today, so we've been for a walk along the harbour front and had lunch overlooking the harbour. This evening we're going to wander to the Seafood restaurants and choose some fresh fish for supper.
