Spegzzini Glacier and Lake Argentina 'Iceberg and glacier' Cruise
It´s around 6pm, returned from another hard day at the office!!! Just finished my afternoon tea and cake, and am now ready to type todays events so far. Damian has just popped down to the lake to view the pink flamingos...yesterday he forgot his binoculars...I´ve been outside enough for today so am enjoying the warm comfort of the hotel.
Today we were forced to spend 8 hours on a very swish fast cat catamaran vessel on Lake Argentino. We were picked up by a minibus bearing the words éxecutive travel´ ...but the 6 of us looked more like rag, tag and bobtail at 7.30am...in fact one of us snored on the transfer...and it wasn´t me! Boarded at 8.45am and docked at 4.55pm. We basically cruised the Lake in search of the icebergs and glaciers. We saw Upsala..with a height of 60 - 80metres, 5 - 7km wide and 60km long, Spegazzini, small in width, just 1.5km but the highest in the National Park at 125metres . How´s that for knowledge????
The icebergs were blocking the way to the Upsala Glacier today so we didn´t get to the face of it, though it was a spectacular sight as it flowed between the mountains...no photos could show you the scale of the thing...especially on my digi tiny point and click!!!
Only one mishap today...the wind whirled about whilst we were waiting for a piece of glacier to crash into the lake, a rumble and a crack started, I moved in excitement and my hat flew onto the ledge outside the safety rail of the boat. My friend for the Glacier trip, Jenny, said ´Don´t worry I´ll get it¨ and she went to reach between what she thought were the safety rails. However, we were standing at a filled in bit. Nicole(her husband) and Damian rolled their eyes and laughed, Nicole held Damian´s legs whilst he reached over to retrieve the hat with instructions from 2 other men. On it´s retrieval Damian held up the hat, and said ´Does anyone want a hat, the wife comes free!!!!´
We saw 7 eagles, 2 condors, 2 Reas today....well, what do you expect when you´re out at the crack of sparrow when all the rabbits are running about having breakfast?!
Going to my spa bath now to prepare for the evening and pack for tomoz as we are leaving on the 7.45pm bus, then boat to our next destination in Chile...can´t remeber where for the moment.
Later Patatas
Gone midnight again...eaten , drunken, concerted again and have just asked for 6.30am call. x Tomoz will arrive in Puerto Natales in Chile...apparently 5ish hours away by bus..must look up where it is on the map
