Unfortunately my time here is almost over, but only as a Uni student. So, what has Lynette been up to for her last month in Cheltenham? (Apologies in advance because this blog is about to be very random)
For starters, I am so intrigued by taxi drivers. This semester was the first I'd ever taken a taxi, and let me tell you, I love talking to the drivers! Of course I always get in the front for this specific reason. Some of them are really sweet and others are just old bags. For example, the one I had in Ireland was super nice! He was like a mini tour guide of the place. And, the same goes for most of them here in Cheltenham, EXCEPT the one from Friday night. Sophie and I went for a night out as our last Friday night out, and I may or may not have been cheap entertainment. Either way, I saw some kids from my school course and had a nice time chatting with them, and the next thing I knew I was outside feeling very ill. We called a cab, and were off. The driver obviously knew I didn't feel well, so apparently the thing to do is drive ridiculously horrible? He was speeding through town and whipping it around the corners. I couldn't hold it in any longer and stuck my head out the window. Yep, I puked down his car. He stopped right there and kicked us out of the taxi. He then, very rudely, told Soph it would be 40 quid since I puked on his car. She said, no and gave him a five. He then demanded that she clean his car, and she told him to meet us at Pittville and he would have to wait until we got home. Yep, the jerk made us walk the rest of the way home. We got home and he was waiting outside our door. We went inside, and whilst we were changing and Soph was getting a bucket of warm water, he was pounding on our hall door. (He was crazy.) Soph was literally out there for five minutes and threw some water on his car and it was perfectly clean. There was absolutely no need for us to pay 40 pounds. He was screaming at Sophie and was being very impolite. I on the other hand was bawling my eyes out and wanted to hide in a hole. Anyway, we got it sorted, and Soph put me to bed. Needless to say, she is amazing and I owe her my life. But, other than him, I love having chats with taxi drivers.
ooooh! And, I taught the girls how to play beer pong this weekend, and they absolutely love it! In fact, of Saturday it was just Sophie and I home, and we played it all day basically. But, with water. We were trying all sorts of tricks and what-nots. Then, we decided we should go out again just for dancing. We were already on the guest list, so why not? It ended up being one of my favorite nights out. We ran into some people we knew (professional rugby players) and just danced/drank the night away with them. It was quite entertaining and such a nice time. The good thing about Saturdays is that it is too expensive for students to go out, so most of the time it's the older folk or those students who haven't gone out in a while. But, this weekend was a lot of fun. We took Sunday off, and on Monday I went out with some of the other Americans and our English friends from Regency (the other halls). **I know you must think I'm an alcoholic, that is NOT the case. I haven't gone out NEARLY as much as other students have, and so I wanted to experience different nights and different places before I left. And, a lot of going out is for the social aspect and just to dance.** But, we danced our little hearts out, and had such a good time. One of my favorite things about going out is people watching. The outfits, make up and hair styles that some girls go out in public with amaze me. And, the fact that their friends told them they looked cute is beyond me. I'll be bringing back some of these to America. :D
This past month, Lynette has been living off of barely any food or money - I feel like a true student. It is SO weird to not have a job. I miss Momma, LB and Kyle a ton! I can't wait to go back to my SAC family. With hardly any money, I've been eating a ton of junk food. This whole semester I have probably gained at least fifteen pounds. That's me trying to feel good about myself. So, all the new clothes I've bought have been quite tight so that I will get home and get back to my old size. I'm in love with the English breads and bacon. First, their fresh bread is amazing, and second, their bacon is nothing compared to ours. Our shrivels up to nothing and is very crispy, whereas here, it is perfect for a sandwich. It still tastes like bacon, but stays in thick slices. They also don't eat ranch over here! What? I know. So instead, I eat everything with mayonnaise and ketchup. After Friday night, I literally only had a fiver to my name. haha. I thought it would get far. ::)
Also in the past month, I've been trying to finish gift shopping and seeing things I have yet to see. I've been stressing over finishing up my coursework and taking exams. I've only received two grades so far, so mid-June I'm going to either be really happy or sad. And, just recently with the change of weather, ants have become our best friends. Mine and Georgie's bathrooms have become their new homes and it's not making me happy. They gross me out and are creepy. They are so little, and quite and quick - you never see them. But when I do, I scream - every time. I mean, I should know they are always going to be in the same spot every time I look, but it still creeps me out. Stupid things.
The weather has been gross this past month as well. It has been very rainy and cold and dark - just what the farmers at home have been praying for. The sun attempts to come out, and it's sweatshirt weather, but it's just so ugly out. The evenings have been nice for running because there is a nice breeze and daylight is getting longer. Then this weeks comes! Of course, the week before we leave the weather is beautiful. It's finally short and tank top weather. :) We had our BCA pre-departure meeting this evening, and afterwards, a few of us walked through the park on our way home. It was so nice out. There were families and groups of friends all over. We stopped and fed the ducks, and saw little baby swans - so cute! We sat on a bench and just chatted for a while. The next thing we knew it was after 6pm. && This is what I'm going to miss about Cheltenham - the amazing friendships I have made.
Oh shoot! I almost forgot some things. Heavens, good thing for a calendar, huh? Anyways, on the first of May, Sophie Ball, Georgie and I went to London for the day. We went up and did a bit of shopping, sight seeing and saw a musical. The weather was perfect and I spent tons of money! This isn't a good thing, but at the time I thought it was fantastic! Then, Jacob Ruemler is near London on base for the Air Force and was able to come in and meet us. Him and a friend met us girls for dinner and they were able to see the show with us. We ended up seeing Wicked which was amazing. At first, our tickets were in the nose bleed section, and not close to each other. But, right before the show started, they told everybody to move closer since the seats were open. We had awesome seats and had so much fun. It felt so nice to see a familiar face. right before the show, the guys decided it would be nice to get a drink. haha. It was nasty. I do not have a clue what it was, but all I know is that it smelled and tasted horribly. It was so bad they couldn't even finish them. Anyway, I wished I were staying over here throughout the summer. ::( I would have loved to meet up with them again.
Tomorrow, May 23rd, the Olympic Torch is coming through Cheltenham and stopping at the racecourse for a ceremony. So, we're going to the park for an early picnic and ice cream at the little shop, then to experience the Olympic stuff - super exciting!
My next post will NOT be about leaving. (I'm in denial as I do not want to come home.)
