(I apologize for the length, but make sure you check out my newly added photos on the side and on Facebook)
Up at five AM, bags packed, and we're ready to hit the airport! Soph and I had researched Jersey, not in the states, but the little island off the coast of France, and we were a bit worried about what was to come of this holiday. The Internet said the newest attraction was McDonald's and that we could walk the island in a day. The zoo apparently only had five species, and there was no night life. -The Internet was wrong, all wrong.
We board the plane, along with about thirty other passengers. First, we notice there is no row 13, the old man in front of us is drinking straight whiskey, and the flight is only 45 minutes. We first land in Guernsey, the other Channel Island. All we see are rocky beaches, and lots of greenery. At this point, we're thinking great. The next flight from here to Jersey was 9 minutes.
We landed safely in Jersey, got our luggage and was out the front doors - now where? We followed the signs that said "public bus" as we figured we'd just ask the driver which bus to catch to get us to St. Hellier. There were no buses at the bus stop, so we continue walking through the parking lot. We see another sign that reads "temporary bus stop." Again, no buses. Finally, we see a large road sign with a round-about picture and about eight town names, St. Hellier was at the top! We figure it can't be far from here, so we'll just walk. Matt had previously told Sophie that walking was a bad idea and that we'd never make it there. But, we thought, how bad could it be? A little over two hours later, Soph and I make it to St. Hellier. (haha).
The walk was quite entertaining to say the least. The scenery was beautiful, the sun was coming up and shining and it wasn't too warm or cold. We followed a business man out of the parking lot, but then he turned down some road. We passed a few car dealerships, and Soph thought about buying us a car to drive. At one point, we thought the pavement, aka sidewalk, ended, but it just got very little. For about an hour and forty-five minutes we were walking single file line. The same taxis probably passed us at least three times. We finally come to the edge of this island and see the beach! Finally, we must be close. At this point, we were probably only a little over half way. We decided to walk along the beach, and that's when it all went down hill. Lynette had lost a wheel. (Note: and this is why I was so picky and had to get ones with FOUR wheels, mom) Not only did it just fall off, it MELTED off. The rest of the way I stayed in the smooth, bike lane. We finally made it, thanks to Google maps we recognized the area. Matt met us outside his house and the rest is history.
Matt is practicing to become a doctor, along with the rest of his housemates, so they're in Jersey for their placement. Thursday night they had an exam, so Soph and I made them dinner for when they returned. Pasta bake with sausages and garlic bread - our specialty. Friday morning, we woke up and headed to the beach at nine AM. It was really nice out, so we just hung out and people watched. We got bored and hungry, so we headed back to the house. There is a cute little park area in front of his house where we spent most of our time. We layed out, had lunch and did our nails there, daily. Prime spot for people watching as well.
Friday night we all (Matt and his housemates, Soph, me and Matt's friend from Jersey called Paul), went down to the beach for a barbecue, aka cookout. It's not the ordinary cookout - it was a disposable one that came in a box! Anyway, it used coals and had all intentions of being an actual cookout. They made burgers and sausages, and for dessert they put chocolate bars in the middle of bananas, wrapped them in tin foil, and melted them. We enjoyed a few ciders and watched the guys play volleyball. It was a successful cookout to say the least.
Then, we all went back to the house to get ready for a night out. They had told Soph and I that the dress attire was nice, meaning a dress and heels. Yep! We went to a place called the Yacht first, and everybody was dressed so smart looking! "It was a very classy establishment." The guys treated us very well that night, and let Soph and I enjoy our time. Whilst we were seated having drinks, Soph sat by this guy that we didn't know and he kept attempting to touch her bum. At one point, the guys got up to get another round, so we played musical chairs. After that, he ended up spilling his drink all over our other friend, Trish. A while later, Soph, me, Matt and Paul headed to the dancing bit. When we first got in, the guys stopped at the champagne bar and asked what we wanted. I'm not a champagne drinker, so I said nothing.. and there they went! haha. Soph was not impressed as we could have been carrying around champagne. :) But, we ended up having loads of fun in there. We then went across the street to the only other club in Jersey. We did a bit of dancing and drinking and headed home.
On our way, we made a few pit stops for the toilet and food - cheesy chips, aka cheesy potatoes or french fries. Soph had gotten a takeaway box of them and I grabbed a handful - bad idea. Anyway, Soph went to "pout" and ran from Paul and I and ended up falling flat on her face. I was wetting myself. I thought I'd be a good friend and help her up, another bad idea. Between our state of minds, out of control laughter, and concern to save the potatoes, there was no hope for us. We finally were back on our way home, safely and happily. Once we got to their doorstep, it all went down hill, again. I started to have a panic attack, mixed with cottonmouth and hyperventilation. (These people have never heard of cottonmouth and thought I was on crack for saying I couldn't breathe because of it.) Anyway, after about two hours of me freaking out, crying, trying to drink water, and breathing into an old, smelly bag, they decided the best answer is to take me to A&E (the emergency room). It's weird though, I was in a house FULL of practicing doctors - I know. But, bless them. They tried everything possible to make me better, I just wouldn't cooperate, go figure. I refused for an hour to go to the hospital, but once we got outside on the lawn, I ended up going. This is now about 5:30AM. We get into the hospital and the receptionist was very irritated. She barged into the toilet asking for my information. "Excuse me ma'm, I'm trying to empty my bladder!!" But, the doctor wasn't going to be available for another hour, so I started to fall asleep - that was all I needed. We all went right back home and to sleep. In the midst of all this though, I lost my favorite blue ring from my mommy :(, and Soph got her kit off on the green. (haha) It was freezing outside and they had already put warm clothes on me inside the house, so Soph needed to put warm clothes on whilst we stood outside for a while. Not to mention, I let them all know of my bodily waste functions, and didn't hold any information back. I was well attractive. Needless to say, that night was my favorite night out of all times.
Saturday was filled with lounging around, watching TV and lots of water. We spoke about going wakeboarding, water skiing, or getting food, but none of us could be bothered to get up. The furthest we went was from the couch to the sink or the toilet, successful eh? Around 6pm we decided that food was necessary, so Paul took us to this place on the other end of the island for dinner. It was at such a cute place along the beach where we watched the sun set. Unfortunately we couldn't finish our meals, so we got doggy bags. He drove around a bit more, then we went back to Matt's and watched Britain's Got Talent and The Voice and finished our meals. It was such a relaxing Saturday.
Sunday we woke up and Matt had to do a bit of work, so Soph and I walked up through the town. Nothing is open on Sunday's apparently. We went into Claire's and got some fingernail polish and cotton pads, McDonald's for a cold drink, and the co-op (their grocery stores) for polish remover. We tried to sit on our grassy area, but it was much too cold, so we did our nails in the house. Sunday night we (the house + Paul) had pizzas and watched Moneyball. I made them white trash and felt right at home - an American film and American food. :) It was funny though because they didn't know all the terminology of baseball, so they had to ask a few questions. After the film we all sat around talking for a bit, then Soph and I had to go pack up our stuff. :( We did so and said goodbye and goodnight to everybody.
This time, we caught a taxi from Matt's house to the airport, and also because our plane left at eight AM. But, Sophie and I had an amazing time in Jersey. It was so chill and relaxing. We met some incredible people and made everlasting memories....... now when do we go back? ♥
