Sunday 1st
It's New Year's Day and our final full day in Cape Town as tomorrow we will start our journey home. I can't believe it's coming to an end already. We decided that today we would head down to Cape Town Waterfront where they have a huge shopping mall! We did a little more shopping then sat in the harbour and enjoyed snoek, calamari (count 10) and chips! The sun was beating down, the skies were blue and it was nice to sit and watch the world go by. After walking around a few more shops with my last few South African Rand notes I decided I might as well spend them! However the Waterfront didn't have what I was looking for so we headed back to Century City where I bought a Pandora bracelet and a penguin charm to go with it to remind me of my holiday (I know, not a lion or a giraffe - but a penguin!). We also took a drive up to Signal Hill which looks over Table Mountain, Lions Head and Cape Town. It was very windy at the top but the views were beautiful. The clouds were blowing over Table Mountain so it looked like a table cloth - hence the name!!
After a long day shopping and sight-seeing we headed back to the apartment and started to pack our bags. It's at this point we realised how much we'd bought on this holiday and so we began squashing things in our bags……….!!

This is it - our last day!
I can't believe this amazing holiday is coming to an end. After making sure all our bags were packed and the apartment emptied we headed down into Durbanville to Mugg & Bean for breakfast with Tim, Grant, Louise and her mum Susan. As mentioned in a previous blog, Louise has recently got married so we all had a look at her lovely wedding photo albums and chatted with her mum about what to expect on the big day! The more I heard, the more I realised how soon our day would be here!
As we had an hour or so to kill before we had to be at the airport we decided to stop off at one last wine farm, Durbanville Hills, to sample some of the local wine! However this wine farm also offered wine & chocolate tasting so we all tucked in to some delicious chocolate and red wines! Chris and I enjoyed it so much that we bought some of the chocolate and two bottles of wine to take with us on our honeymoon! We also had a wine and biltong tasting sessions as well where we tried Ostrich biltong and Kudu biltong - very nice indeed! Although we were having fun it didn't stop the time creeping up on us and soon we headed off to the airport. When we got there we queued for ages in the customs line so we could claim all our tax back on our gifts, and then we went to check in! Again Emirates had got our seat bookings incorrect for the flight from Cape Town to Dubai but it wasn't too bad as we all shared a row and didn't have to sit with anyone else. We spent the last of our South African pennies in duty free then boarded the plane for Dubai. I was quite sad to be leaving Africa as it has been an amazing holiday but at the same time I was ready to go home!
