Again, we woke up to clear blue skies and very warm weather! Finally had a really good night's sleep so felt ready for today. Helen had booked a tour for the Delheim Wine Farm in Stellenbosch - a family run wine farm which was started by Spatz Sperling who arrived from Germany in the early 1950's. However we suddenly realised that we had lost the map book so headed out 'on a hunch' to where this place was! After pulling over to find out where we needed to be, we soon found out we were heading in the wrong direction! We eventually found the wine farm and set on a tour of the cellars and tanks used to produce the wine. You could get drunk on the smell of the cellars! After finding out about how the farm started and what kind of wines they produced, we then got to sample a few! We were given a list and got to choose 6 wines each and sample them! The rose and the chardonnay were lovely and Geoff even bought a couple of bottles to take home! We then moved into the restaurant to enjoy a cheese & German food platter whilst sitting in the sunshine. The weather was absolutely gorgeous! We also managed to get an internet connection so quickly uploaded all our recent photos and type the blogs for the first few days!! (we now have internet in the apartment hence me typing this one now tehehe!).
After finishing our platters and enjoying a lazy afternoon, we took a drive through the hills and stopped off at Fairview; a goat farm which produces goat-milk cheeses etc. We then drove to Blouberg Beach and I finally got to paddle in the sea! Now I'm used to holidays in Spain where the beaches are white and the water is warm. Blouberg beach has white sands, turquoise waters and fabulous views across the bay to Table Mountain - but the water is bloody freezing! I expected it to be warm given how hot the weather was but I forgot the Atlantic Ocean is a little cold!!! However, once paddling you soon get used to it so Chris and I had a splash around and began writing our names in the sand like five year olds!
Brushing the sand off our feet, we then took a drive to Durbanville where Chris once lived! I got to see he old house, his school, scout hut, where he learnt to swim and where he got caught peeing behind an advertising sign by the school grounds keeper!! It was interesting seeing all these things as it's a part of his life before the UK! We went to his old coffee shop, Mugg & Bean, for a coffee and HUGE muffins!
Later in the evening we got a little peckish and went to Steers - it's a bit like a burger king/fast food place but the food is really tasty (probably all the MSG and preservatives I'm told!). We then headed to Tyger Valley to have a wander round. Chris is a little disappointed as it's not how he remembers! But it has a Wimpy that does lime milkshakes that he loves so it can't all be bad ha ha!
Its now just gone midnight so as I'm now up to date with the blogs and photos I'm off to bed! Tomorrow we have an ostrich farm visit and a trip to Boulders Beach to see the penguins! I thought you only got penguins in snowy places……....?

Mum x Well it's been snowing here but we've no penguins - only chucks!!
Catherine A beautiful piece of writing, but why is it that the 'huge muffins' bit just stood out so much! I personally thought you could have expanded and talked about the different varieties, the one you chose, why you chose it, which one I would have liked etc. I'll give you a B+ for this effort. Well done Ruth Xx
