We woke up to a lovely sunny morning with the temperature already in the mid-twenties by 9:30am! As the weather was good with clear blue skies we decided that today would be a good day to go up Table Mountain. The drive up to the Mountain was fantastic in itself - the roads curve round and you get fabulous panoramic views. After parking on one of these roads we walked to the ticket office and waited around 45 minutes. It did look a little scary seeing the cable cars shoot up the mountain (it only takes 4 minutes to get to the top! When you go into a cable car, the floor of it rotates so everyone can get 'that picture'. When we reached the top, it was breath-taking. It was such a clear morning and it made for some pretty spectacular photographs! We got to see some Dassies (quiet ones this time) and some crazy blokes abseiling down the side of the mountain - one guy even posed for tourist photos holding both his hands up in the air! Show-off!!. We sat and had breakfast overlooking Cape Town, bought a view souvenirs then headed back down the mountain.
We then headed to Houts Bay where we visited Snoekies, a fish and chip place right on the harbour. Chris had been telling me about this place for months as it's somewhere he remembers as a kid! We all had Snoek, Calamari & Chips (calamari count - 2) and Chris had something else he'd been craving - a Fanta Grape! He was in his element for this lunch!
After walking round some curio market stalls (where African ladies sell beaded items, decorated ostrich eggs, carved wooden animals etc), we jumped on a boat to Seal Island. I had watched videos of Seal Island from Helen & Geoff's old video camera, but I was told I needed to see it for myself to experience the smell!!!. Well I can confirm that seals smell! The views of the bay were beautiful and we could see Chapmans Peak - a road that cuts through the mountain. So after we got back to shore and were greeted by a traditional capie band, we jumped in the care and took a drive along Chapmans Peak. Again, the views were fantastic so we stopped at the top for a few more pictures. We then moved on to Noordhoek village where I found a sheep made of beads & wire (this is a reference for my mum & dad - aallllllright!). We looked around the shops then headed to get some groceries and some of Chris's favourite South African sweets & biscuits (fatty)!
We found a Cattle Barons restaurant in our complex so ended up there for dinner. Chris skipped the calamari on this occasion and had a good old steak! And very nice they were too! After a long but exciting day, it was time for bed…. And this time, no Dassie keeping us awake! Yay!!
