Friday 30th
Today we visited some more old family friends and sat outside on their balcony overlooking the beautiful view. We also took a drive to find an old Swiss Chalet that Chris remembers as a kid (which serves cakes/coffee and rostis) that's just before the Du Toitskloof Pass over the mountains. We did find it and had tea and cake whilst chatting to the owners about how Chris last came here about 15 years ago! Later in the evening Tim & Grant visited us at the apartment with Louise & Ian . They had recently got married so we chatted a little about weddings! It had been quite an easy going day so, after every one had left, we stayed in and had Nando's again!!
Saturday 31st
New Years Eve!! We were up bright and early so we could head back to Cape Point and hopefully avoid all the holiday traffic. We got to the entrance for around 10am and drove straight in for breakfast. It was quite a long drive to the parking area but again the views were fantastic. The beaches here are to die for! We arrived at the visitor centre and headed straight for the restaurant for breakfast. The balcony we sat at overlooked False Bay - probably one of the most beautiful views I've ever had whilst eating bacon & eggs! Once we'd finished all the toast we headed up the funicular to the Cape Point light house. From the highest point you can view the Atlantic Ocean & the Indian Ocean and the point at which they meet. Again it made for some fabulous photos!! We hit the tourist shop and ended up buying two new cuddly toys to join Leon - a zebra & a giraffe (names on a postcard please).
As we headed back into Cape Town we stopped off at Century City shopping centre. We looked around a few shops and thought we'd give it one last try at finding our wedding rings. As a nice sentiment of a memorable holiday we wanted to get our rings in South Africa. We had previously looked in jewellery stores but they just didn't have what we were looking for. However we soon found two different jewellers and purchased our rings! Chris got a palladium ring and I got a white gold ring with channel set diamonds. Fair to say we were pretty pleased that we managed to get them! Chris even wanted to start wearing his - I'm sure it was just because of his ring, not because he was excited at getting married!
For New Year's Eve we headed down to Buena Vista for Mexican/Cuban food and cocktails. We were joined by Tim and Grant later on in the evening. The bar played 60's & 70's music throughout the night and it was a good atmosphere. However as we'd had an early morning getting up for Cape Point we were struggling to stay awake after 10pm! But given we were in South Africa I was determined to stay awake so we carried on with the drinks and saw in the New Year with everyone else! But by 12:30am we were in our PJ's!! Happy New Year!!!
And, on a personal note, I can finally say "We're getting married this year"!!!!!!!!.
