When we arrived in Airlie beach we knew that we wantd to spend some time out on the Whitsunday islands but were unsure of what to do and where to go. The helpful girl at the travel agent led us in the direction of Hayman Island resort. We could have either chosen to spend a couple of nights on a boat sailing round the islands or just visit the one island, and me not being too keen on boats we opted for the resort. We were told that Hayman island was in the top 10 resorts in the world and from seeing the pictures we were really excited to go there, even if we had to stretch our budget a bit!
The trip started with a ferry crossing from Airlie Beach to Hayman. It only took 45 minutes and its the first time we wished a boat trip was longer. The boat itself was gorgeous, all wood and white leather and there was only about 10 of us on so we felt really special. The staff really looked after us with drinks and breakafst and we were able to enjoy the view from the upper deck as we approached the beautiful island.
Once on the island we were settled in to our room. We paid a bit more for a pool view and we are so glad we did. We had a massive balcony which overlooked the pool, ocean and all the islands. The room itslef was massive and very posh, have a look at our pics to see.
The resort itself had pretty much everything to do, bars and restaurants, sports, spa's etc. We took advantage of it all and had a game of tennis, some kayaking, a walk to some very amazing island lookouts and lots of time in the pool. We were treated to a free cocktail on our first day as we sunbathed round the pool, we felt very spolit.
The first night we had dinner on our balcony which was lovely, it was still so warm to sit outside and enjoy the views. On the second night we went to one of the resorts restaurants an Italian and spoilt ourselves. Each day we had breakfast in the restauarnt overlooking the sea, which included champagne, something we could get used to.
The return back to the mainland was just as nice with us treated to some champagne as we said goodbye to the island.
The whole experience was pretty perfect, the island and surroundings were so breathtaking and we were treated so well at the resort, it was summed up by one aussie who said to us that hayman island is special and thats exactly how it was for us.
