Two days in Cairns was highlighted by a trip out to the small tourist attraction called The Great Barrier Reef (have you heard of this?? haha). It was a great day out that started first thing in the morning. We cruised out to an island called Michaelmas Cay and did a bit of snorkelling. It was so nice to see all the coral and tropical fish and it was very much like Fiji. We both tried our hand at scuba diving but unfortunately Lynz backed out at the last minute as she didn't feel comfortable with having to breathe through a big massive tank on her back...fair enough. The dive was a great experience and Lee managed to take a few pictures with an underwater camera, but too be honest the pictures do not do the reef justice as it looks a lot better in real life. We were treated to a gorgeous seafood buffet lunch and some champagne on the way back to the main land to end a relaxing day out at sea. Cairns itself is a lovely place to visit and even though it is not blessed with the greatest beach in the world, it has a lagoon on the sea front with a grass area around it. As the temperature was reaching upto 37c it was only right to do a spot of sun bathing and a nice way to start our trip down the east coast. Even though we are gutted to have left Sydney, it feels so good to be back travelling and Cairns has set the tone for the rest of trip!
