From the Hunter Valley we travelled on the outskirts of Sydney to the Blue Mountains. We stayed for one night in a little town called Katoomba, which is where the main sights of the Blue Mountains are viewed from. At the very nearby "Scenic World" (well thought of name I know!) we rode the Skyway, which is basically a tin box hanging from a cable slowly taking you over the valley at 800 feet...oh yeh and if that wasn't enough, it had a glass floor! The experience was as good as the views and for $16 (about £7) its a pretty good bargin! We learnt abit of history about the place and why they are called The Blue Mountains. Its due to a blue haze that makes the mountains look blue caused by eucalyptus plants, which is alot more believable than the story (or myth) about the three sisters that were turned into stone by their father, the witch doctor and his magic bone to protect them. It almost sounds like a Walt Disney classic! The Blue Mountains national park is just over an hours drive away from Sydney, which amazes me how close something so natural and beautiful is to such a major city.
