Last stop before we head back to Sydney is the nations capital, Canberra. If your not an Aussie you can be forgiven for thinking Sydney was the capital of Australia seeing as though it is the biggest city, but Canberra was designed to be the capital and only has a population of 320,000. We drove up to Mount Ainslie for views of the city and the parliament houses and from there you can see just how small the city is. It was quite a cultral visit for us here where we visited the Australian war memorial and museum and learnt about Australias and New Zealands participation in the two world wars. The very modern National Museum of Australia was brilliant to look round, we learnt about Aborignals and their culture and also about the first settlers. One thing that we did not expect was to get so close to parliament house and infact we even got to walk around inside! Now hows that for relaxed! It was fascinating to just casually walk around, something you just couldn't do in our country. One thing that has hit us is the drop in temperature since travelling further south. Its the start of spring here in oz but up in Queensland it has been 30c plus most days. But here in Canberra its been no more than 20c and the mornings are fresh and the evenings are chilly!
