Hey All,
Well just finished 2 full camp days on the main land - after a long journey there we were welcomed by not only the School but the whole local community - it was in an area they very rarely see western people so they went all out to make us feel welcome - from the Headteacher and the to the other teachers to the dinner ladies to the parents - it was awsome!! They were so welcoming! They kept touching my still white skin and laughing - glad it managed to amuse them!!!
The teaching went so well again - I loved every minute of it - despite the high temperatures - we managed the egg and spoon race / sack race and tug of war as well as other art / craft / english and maths lessons!! The treasure hunt went down well. The lessons were great - the kids english was limited but we made ourselves understood (I think) - There will be even more Thai kids with Stokie accents now!! Explaining play your cards right was a challenge!! Although their maths was excellent - they were matstering really complex sums - I was well impressed!
Stayed overnight on the main land in a Dorm style room which was fine unless you wanted to sleep!!! Still with my headphones in managed some sleep as the kids had worn me out - they have soooo much energy!!
More teaching today (yes on a Sunday) and then the teachers / parents and local community did a show for us with dancing and music which was great - they got us all up dancing.
The school then presented us with certificates which was a really nice touch.
The children were getting us to sign their exercize books for ages afterwards - they would not let us go - we nearly missed our ferry back!!! The parents all wanted our photos (yes even mine - looking sweaty and certainly not at my best!!)
They were so lovely and so grateful for us going to their school.
The serve the most fantastic school dinners (Jamie Oliver not needed over here!!) Rice with veggies and lots to fruit - v v v nice indeed!
Relaxing and prep day tomorrow for teaching on Tues / Wed.
Thanks for the messages
