We arrived in Airlie Beach and it was such a lovely little place. However we weren't too keen on the large black clouds!!! We found our campsite and checked in. The site was awful, it was a backpacker campsite and was so dirty. We basically stayed in our van the whole night. There were beasties everywhere feasting on our tasty bodies - yuk!!!!!
After making some hot dogs on our little gas burner we tucked ourselves in our van for the night and watched a DVD with some beer - bliss!
The next morning it was an early start as we had to meet our tour group for our Whitsundays tour. We had a safety briefing and then it was time to load up the boat. There were about 90 of us on the boat - can't actually believe we all fitted on! The engines started and the wine was flowing - excellent!
We sailed to a place called, 'Koala Adventure Island'. That would be our base and where we would sleep at night. The journey there was lovely, the sun was shining and the views were amazing!
We arrived on our island and got ourselves a little group of 6 people for our dorm. We made our beds and then it was time for tea. We headed down to the dinging area which was lovely. Right by the pool and palm trees there was a massive long table for all 90 of us to sit at. We found out that it was kangaroo for tea, I wasn't sure about that but I had to try it. Well, I was so surprised.......it was delicious! I would defo eat it again. Try it guys you will love it!
Then after food it was time for the beach party. As you could imagine it involved alot of drinking, dancing, games, drinking, drinking and most people ended up in the pool at the end of the night!!
The next day it was up at 6am - WHAT!!!! We only got to bed at 4.30am. I was totally hungover after my many cocktails the night before but I got up, had my breakfast and was ready for the day ahead. Unfortunately, the weather was awful. Dark clouds everywhere, cold and the sea was EXTREMELY choppy! There were a lot of people hanging off the boat being sick over the side. After all, we were all hungover and we were on the choppy boat for 3 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!
We eventually arrived at Whitehaven Beach, looking a lot less paler than when we had left!! We jumped off the boat and onto the sand. It was beatiful, so white and so fine. We had a little sunbathe but to be honest it was too cloudy - boo hoo! It was then back on to the boat for some lunch and then time for the 3 hour boat journey back!!! Thankfully the sea was a lot calmer.
We were eventually back on dry land and myself and Ems headed for a cup of tea from the cafe to heat ourselves up - we were freezing! Then we decided to have a quite night that night as we were so tired. We didn't even make it for tea, we were in our jammies and in bed by 8.30pm!
The next morning we got up for breakfast feeling nice and refreshed. There were a few people rough again from the night before but supposedly only a third of the group had made it out last night - so everyone had the same idea as Ems and I.
After breakfast we got packed, jumped on the boat and headed to 'Blue Pearl Bay'. We stopped here and did some snorkelling! It was amazing. Unfortunately we had to wear a tight lycra stinger suit so the jellyfish couldn't sting us - we looked ridiculous! We were told that there would be sharks in the water but that they wouldn't come near us - WHAT!! Sharks beside me in the water - no thanks. The group leader assured me that nothing would happen to me so I jumped straight in! I was so scared.
The fish were everywhere and all we did was swim through shoals of them! Wow, they were touching me and nibbling at my mask, was so weird. The fish were all different colours and sizes, it was wicked. The coral was absolutely stunning! Can't believe I can now say that I've snorkelled on the Great Barrier Reef - how fab!
It was then back on the baot for some lunch and sunbaking before heading back to the Marina. The trip was really good but the weather did put a dampner on it a little!!!
