Arrived in Byron Bay. Another very chilled out place. People are so laid back they are lying on the floor!!! Nice to see but when you are hungry or in a rush it really gets on your nerves.
Jumped off the bus - well actually struggled off with my 30kg suitcase - and we were picked up by a campervan from our hostel. We were worried about staying in the hostel as we had only been in really nice hotels but thought that the hostel must be ok if we were getting a free lift.
Hostel was not bad, staff again were so chilled out that they spoke so slowly - aaggghhh! We were put in a six bed dorm, even though we asked for a four bed dorm so checked what was happening and we were told we had the whole dorm. Excellent, (we thought), as we weren't looking forward to sharing a room with randoms. We left our massive cases and went for a walk around. We found a restaurant that one of my kids, (Curtis), had found out about for me, 'Fish Heads', but couldnt get a photo becasue it was too dark and you couldnt see it clearly in the photo - awww!! Went back to hostel after some food and could not believe how cold it was. I put on - tights, 2 pairs of socks, jammie bottoms, vest top, thicker hoody top, my Australia Zoo hoody and I was still freezing in bed!
Woke up the next morning as a snowman, seriously, and could hardly feel my body. The thought of having to go outside to get to the toilet was unbearable. Went down to ask if we could move rooms and they moved us to a four bedroom dorm which was a little less like the Antarctic. Stayed in that room with an extra two blankets each and a heater! Woke up in the morning to the sound of our door being opened and in came Mark, our german room mate - what! We had asked for a female dorm. So you could imagine us totally unimpressed with the thought of sharing with a bloke that hardly spoke English and had his eyes popping out of his head like he had just arrived in heaven!
Anyway, we picked ourselves up as we had the music festival to go to. We had heard that drink would be expensive, so I had an idea of buying a box of wine, taking the wine out of the box and sticking the pack down our skirts with a jumper wrapped around our waist. What an amazing idea, totally worked! Did look like we had massive bums though - hee hee.
'Splendour In The Grass' was amazing. It was a beautiful day and we were rather merry. Went to see the Fratellis and I had brought my Scotland flag to wave around for them to see. We were in the fourth row from the front and the band gave us the thumbs when they saw my flag - so exciting!
Spent that night in the hostel, warm and merry without a care in the world. Woke up the next morning to Mark getting up and getting dressed. Not a pretty sight. Decided that surviving three nights in a hostel was an amazing achievement for us and that is was time to move on to a hotel. We therefore left early and moved to Ballina, (where our flight to Sydney was from). Hostel staff were not impressed and said that we had been nothing but hassle - ha ha. All we did was ask for a warm room!!!! Never mind. It's all about the experience huh!
Left Byron Bay with lots of good memories though and stayed in a gorgeous apartment in Ballina for two nights. Spent those days warming our bodies, catching up on sleep and staying clear of german men - hee hee.
We flew from Ballina to Sydney this morning..............
