Arrived safely in Brisbane but very very tired. Stepped out of the airport into heavy rain and got a train to our hostel. Yuk, yuk and more yuk. It was awful - dirty, tiny, smelly and just down right manky! Left after 5 minutes and ran around in the rain looking for accommodation. Booked into a lovely apartment with a pool, spa and sauna. So chuffed!
First day was spent walking around in the rain, checking out the shops, restaurants and most importantly the pubs! We were so tired from travelling that we ended up being in bed for 7pm and slept right through for 15 hours!!!! Didnt even move an inch!
Tried to have a big night out but turned out not to be so much fun. We had a drink in the apartment and then got a taxi into a busy part of the city. Turns out that you need photographic ID to get into any pub or club in the whole of Australia no matter how old you are. If you don't have ID you don't get in. After being refused from 6 pubs we decided to give up and head home. We bumped into 2 police men and vented our frustrations to them and they totally understood. Had a good laugh with them - not impressed with the uniforms though! We got a taxi home and ended up in the backpackers pub that we had been in during the day for lunch. Thankfully we got in there as the bouncer recognised us from during the day. Consumed lots of alcohol and met lots of travellers. Went to bed about 5am and spent the next day pretty much in bed - hee hee! So from now on we need to take our passports out with us or our drivers license - nightmare!
Did a tour of the city where we jumped on and off a bus and a city cab, (ferry). Found out that Brisbane isn't really a big city and there wasnt much to do. Found a gorgeous beach in the middle of the city though and it was amazing to be standing on a mini beach, surrounded by gorgeous tall green trees and then high buildings behind that. Was beautiful to see! So amazing.
We visited Steve Urwin's zoo. It was so much fun. I stroked a koala bear, a crocodile, a kangaroo and fed an elephant. Had to buy a hoody that said 'Australia Zoo' across the front as it was a little chilly. When the sun was shining it was really hot but there was still a chilly breeze - must have been blowing in from Scotland!
Jumped onto the bus at 7am - (oh my god!!!) - on the 29th of July and travelled down to Surfers Paradise.
Brisbane was good and we had a fab time and saw some lovely sights. We decided that we woudn't go back though as it was very expensive and there wasnt much to do.
