Arrived in Melbourne this morning, 9th August. Sarah has now left us though and has started her two day trek home, flying to New Zealand, LA, London and Edinburgh - nightmare. We will miss her but she might be back. So just the two musketeers now!
Staying in St Kilda which is lovely. We would love to stay here too but just too cold at the moment. Checked into our hotel and upgraded to an apartment straight away, its beautiful!! How slow are Australians by the way. It takes them ages to do anything, organise anything, say anything. Its great to be laid back but sometimes its so frustrating and its really starting to get on our nerves. The people we have met so far are not big on customer service atall - all you need is a smile and some please and thank you's - we aint asking for much.
Had a walk around and its a really busy area but yet feels so quiet and relaxed which is nice. Lots of lovely wee shops and trendy bars and cafes. Staying here for four nights and going to be meeting up with Mardie from my work and Kerstin an old school friend - how exciting. Going to the Sunday Beach Market tomorrow, Neighbours trivia night on Monday to meet the stars, (aaaaggh), want to head into the centre of Melbourne and myself and Mardie are thinking about doing a Sky Dive - woohoo!
At the moment we are thinking about heading to Darwin next to settle there for a couple of months. We are in desperate need of sunshine as we have not packed winter boots, jackets, gloves and scarves and dont want to have to buy all of those things to get us through the next 6-8 weeks of winter. Winter here is so not like our Summer - thats rubbish. Its been between 5 and 11 and windy with the odd bit of rain and then we had that major thunder and lightning storm too!! Ive had goosebumps constantly - hee hee. We havent let the weather get us down though and have been out all day and night - every day. So we could settle in Darwin for a couple of months and get a wee job and then head back down when its warmer. That's our thinking at the moment anyway.
Really excited about my next few days in Melbourne.........
Met Mardie and Wendy for tea and drinks in the city centre which was ace. Got a little bit too drunk though - what a laugh. Got a cracking video of Mardie dancing which I will try to upload soon. It was so nice to catch up with some Scots and talk normally, rather than having to speak slowly and pronounce your t's.
On Monday night we went to the 'Neighbours' Trivia night. How cheesy but it was such a laugh. We met Karl Kennedy, Malcolm Kennedy (used to be in it ages ago), Michelle Scully and Ryley Parker (didnt know who he was). Got photos with them all and will upload them as soon as poss. We took part in a quiz with our team name being, "The Haggis Hunters", unfortunatley we didn't win. That might have been something to do with the amount of wine that the four of us consumed! Myself and Kerry got up for a competition to try and win a trip around Australia. We had to sing either, a football song, our national anthem or something to do with home. Kerry sang "500 miles" and I sang "Flower of Scotland". Most of the people in the pub were english so the bloke that sang "God Save the Queen" won as everyone had to cheer for who they wanted to win. Gutted but was a good laugh! We then danced the night away to the sounds of Karl Kennedy's band. They were actually really good and I've got lots of pics and vidoes of them. They were totally cheesy though and its obvious that they are only well known because of Karl. It was then a tearful goodbye to Mardie and Wendy followed by a cold walk home to our apartment. Somehow the tears didn't seem to stop so Kerry cuddled me the whole way home - awww!
Didn't get chance to meet up with Kerstin as we were both too busy, also quite upset that there was no time to do a Sky Dive. Kerry is going to do it with me at somepoint over the year though - she did a pinky promise!
Really loved Melbourne and we will defo be back here when the weather picks up!
