Today I needed to head to Trujillo to do some shopping so I decided to get up early and catch a collectivo over to the city. First stop was the mercado and it was absolute chaos - people, chickens, bikes and crap everywhere. I wondered around getting bumped, pushed and pointed at - I ended up buying loads of crap that I didn't really need but liked the look of (must remember I just have one small backpack). Among the treasures were some small scissors, dried figs and some gym bands. It's funny that I am so excited to be staying put and already straight back to consumerism. There was so much good food on offer for lunch and at cheap prices but in the end I went for the old and trusted boiled eggs and avocado. I decided to walk back across the city and visit two of the large supermarkets to buy a few last things - unfortunately the supermarkets here are very expensive so I just brought a few things before flagging down a bus back to Huanchaco. It was nearly dark when I arrived back at home - getting of the bus I notice a huge wet patch on my jeans - crap the olives and juice I brought have leaked all through my bag. It gets worse too, I had brought a heap of books and notepads to start my Spanish study with and they are also drenched black olive water colour and barely savable. A disaster but at least my bag smells nice now.
