After barely any sleep and thinking incessantly about places to move and to whether to buy a board or not I got out of bed and made my way to the market. I talked to a few locals asking them about the best fish to buy and how to cook it etc and settled on a nice 1/2 kg of whiting type fish - coming to a total of $1.20. I then met up with a guy called Angelo a local Couchsurfer with his own little business renting boards, wetsuits and teaching surfing. He seemed more trustworthy then some of the other locals I had met and having really long and good couchsurfing history I think I can trust what he says. He took me back to his place a cool little surf hang-out and said I could have one of his rooms for about $70 a month - super cheap and enough to cover electricity, gas, Internet etc. the place seemed pretty cool and had everything I would need including a TV, kitchen, wifi and hot water oh and the best thing he would let me use any of his boards and wetsuits from the shop for a couple of dollars a day and so I wouldn't need to buy gear. I almost said yes straight away but decided to wait and find out if the really nice place I seen yesterday would take my offer of $120 a month. For lunch I cooked up some of the fish exactly how the locals had told me: salt, pepper, spices, bit of flour - fried in some hot oil and wow absolutely delicious. In the afternoon there was supposed to be a surf comp happening so I headed down to the beach to watch and grab some sunshine. An Argentinian guy who was also staying in the hostel came down and we hung-out and watched the city come to life. It's really strange hear; absolutely no one is around in the morning or half the afternoon but at about 3pm when the waves get good people flock to the beach, boats go out fishing, people go shopping and business starts. It's really interesting watching how this little town works and it is so completely different to anything I have ever seen before. I went to the place I was hoping to rent exactly 4 times today, I was hoping to talk to the owner as the lady running the place kept promising he would be back in 1 hour. In the evening I went and visited Angelo again and had another look at his place and tried to decide if I could handle staying there for 1 month, still not sure but am liking that I can rent a board and wetsuit off of him very cheap.
