Day 3,
Disaster! We woke up at 10:50, very late. Had reservations for a visit to l'Uffizi (biggest museum of the Renaissance period in Italy). Yes, reservations were for 11:45!... Well, did we ever get up and dressed & out so fast with only a bottle of water and a peach each with 2 km to walk.... Sweating like crazy, hey! it was already a hot day. We made it in time. We're gooddd...... And that's a good thing!
For the next six hours, we walked through this huge U shape museum with so many confusing rooms. Jo & I had our own favorites. I seemed to prefer the paintings of Botticelli - specially the Birth of Venus and Primavera (Spring). Jo's favorite room was all gilded in gold, ceiling and and walls, telling the story of this amazing woman Niobe who had many sons and daughters but the gods punished her because of her arrogance and killed them all. This room was absolutely magnificent and sorry folks, we're running out of words to describe this room.
Jo's favorite painting was also the Primavera (Spring). It was inspiring, to say the least: love, hope & despair, all combined in a painting.
We walked across our old Ponte Vecchio to take a picture of the Uffizi from across the river. And then decided, enough is enough, we needed a drink and to sit down. So, we went to Harry's bar & restaurant. We had a drink and decided to stay for supper: we did not want to get up anymore. Had a wonderful meal of pasta & vino to die for. And we walked back to the Hotel along the Arno river all lit up and with the moon at our back and the planet Jupiter watching out for us. Si, si, no stars here yet, but all we see is the moon and the planet Jupiter. Jo & I were wondering why there was only one star in the sky but it was not a star, it was Jupiter and they can not see it all the time, just at this time of the year. Stars are sleeping at this time, so we were told... Oh well?...
Good night, Buona notte, Bonne nuit to all, tutti!
The Tuscany gals!
