Norman's first outing
The first stop was Activ Sports to look at a new bike for Norman as his other 20 were still in his cellar in France. Following expert advice from Activ and a promise to return from Norman, the ride started with Norman riding John's old bike. This soon changed to Norman riding John's new Activ supplied bike - an indication of Norman's negotiating skills.
Along Hythe seafront, the Royal Military canal, we sped following cycle route 2, to be joined by Rosemary a little before our lunch stop at Botolph's Bridge.
Lunch and service were good. John complained about having to drink wine, yet again and uttered surprise that Peter, the oldest rider, was able to finish his meal
"You are old," said youthful John, "and your jaws are too weak
For anything tougher than suet;
Yet you finished the goose, with the bones and the beak
Pray, how did you manage to do it?"
"In my youth," said Peter, "I took to the law,
And argued each case with my wife;
And the muscular strength, which it gave to my jaw,
Has lasted the rest of my life."
(With apologies to Rosemary)
A speedy return via Burmarsh and Lower Wall Road followed and we found the car park in West Hythe at four o'clock. After tea (no crumpets) the Land Rover completed the last section back to Folkestone Lees. 44km in all!
