Woodchurch to Small Hythe Vinyard
Starting at Woodchurch Green the riders zoomed down Susan's Hill (after first climbing it!), left past the most hidden farm shop ever, to arrive on the Tenterden to Woodchurch road. Left then right the route followed Moor Lane to Appledore. Norman checked the level below sea and within the accuracy of his GPS declared that we were one metre below (two from ground level!) so the ride sped to higher land in Appledore. A second check outside the Ferry Inn suggested that haste was needed before high tide, so the group retreated to high ground at Stone Church where Norman gave an informed tour of the architectural features. Judith was highly impressed with the Mithras Altar!
A tour round the northern cliff line of the Isle of Oxney was followed by a two mile ride through metre high grass and wild flowers alongside the Reading Sewer. Norman came into his own and has the all-time speed record for this section, but couldn't resolve if the route was 5 metres below or 5 metres above sea level. Judith dissappeared into the grass looking for snakes and Peter found a photogenic swan family posing for their portrait.
Emerging close to the lunch stop at Small Hythe Vinyard we met up with Rosemary and Christine (who came by car) and Pete and Jill who arrived on their bikes. Christine and Lorna arrived shortly afterwards. A good lunch was had by all!
On the return a large camera-shy hare greeted the team on its final mile in Moor Lane. He appeared somewhat surprised!
