Circumnavigating the Isle of Thanet
Not since the times when Hengest and Horsa landed on Thanet had the isle seen the likes of the Lympne cycling diaspora arriving along the Wantsum channel. Parking in St Nicholas at Wade the group welcomed Juliette on her first ride. Accompanied by John (Dad), Judith, Ruth and Peter she slithered along the route to the sea wall. After a few miles Ruth uttered the thought in everyone's mind: "where are we?".
Well, the sea was on the left, we all agreed. And there is remained for the next 15 miles as we cycled through Westgate on sea, Margate (on sea, of course), Kingsgate, Broadstairs and arrivied at Ramsgate harbour for an excellent lunch at the Cafe Belge in the building appropriately named after Peter. What a lunch! When can we go again?
Next, back to Pegwell bay, then to Minster, the capital city of Thanet, Muncton and finally back to St Nicholas at Wade. Arriving just at dusk, we realised why Thanet was so heavily populated - it's a fantastic place for cycling and the food is excellent.
