Early this morning we were rudely woken by the local steers mooing their heads off in the bush, also followed by dingo howls!
After a restless sleep (thinking I was going to be trampled by a bull) we headed to Mt Barnett Roadhouse (only fuel for 300kms on GRR) then to Manning Gorge.
The trek to Manning Gorge started with a river crossing. An exciting way to start a hike especially because Mel decided to carry the backpack up in the air and attempt to swim across, wetting almost everything and nearly drowning herself to save my iPhone!
Once we got to the other side of the river half drowned and wetting ourselves laughing, we continued the 1.5hour cross country trek through dry, rocky country until we reached the most amazing gorge!
Huge rocky escarpments, a large cascading waterfall and deep aqua blue water, we were very impressed and hung out for a while before trekking back.
Continuing on 100km of eroded, rocky road we came to Imantjil Roadhouse. The roadhouse is owned by a white couple and is next to an aborigine settlement with about 30 aborigines. In the wet season the road are all blocked off and only 2 aborigines and the roadhouse owners remain for the entire wet season (the others go to Derby).
Our camp tonight is near Bell Gorge (which we visit tomorrow) and we cooked some awesome steaks on the flaming hot griddle tonight!
Highlight today: river crossing episode and Manning Gorge
