Arriving in Koh Samui.....sun was blazing down and we were being fronted with 'taxi?' coming at us from all directions! After only 30 minutes on a boat we just wanted to slop out on a bed....the heat is tiring you know! Finally getting a good price for our destination the taxi driver had no idea where our place was....great!! After making a phone call we came across Royal Cottage Residence....this was it! :) The room was huge!! Something we hadn't been used to in a while....thanks to Hayley for an awesome 2 nights stay here!....the pool was literally 30 seconds away....just what we needed!
We dumped our bags, a quick freshen up and we were on our way to explore what Lamai had to offer....first impressions.....the tourists!! A walk down the beach, and it was just rows and rows of sun beds filled with sun worshippers and holiday makers....we had been spoilt in Koh Phangan for sure!
Night came and we made our way to a place that was advertising The Hunger Games film....so we rocked up ordered food, a beer and watched the film all for £5.....what more could you want!!
When reading our hotel welcome pack we noticed a fee had to be paid for any
'friends' who stayed the night....something we had never heard of before....then it all clicked into place over breakfast, which was eaten outside round the pool....other guests rooms surrounded the pool....so whilst tucking into our toast...we witness the walk of shame...hahaha....this is what Lamai seemed all about....
Chilling by the pool was the main activity of the day! We then ventured out later that night and treated ourselves to an Indian...yum! Feeling pretty stuffed a skype session was done to home :)
4 hours were then left to kill before the football started....at 1.45 am!!!! What a better way to do it than watch a bit of lady Thai boxing! The fight was over pretty quick (they dont hold anything back!) so we headed back to base...with a TV in our room matt was happy and that was it until 5 in the morning!....
An early start... And only 3 hours sleep for matt ha! We got a taxi and made our way to Chaweng for the next 2 nights....(something we would later live to regret!) we dumped our bags at our new place and headed out for a wander along the beach.....again tourists!! Something we are beginning to hate...oh and leary old men that seem to pick up Thai women (or maybe ladyboys...who knows the difference here?!) Anyways....night came and we headed out for some food....and another skype session was done :)
It was the black moon party tonight...free entry before midnight! That was our mission....after dodging the rain we jumped in a taxi and told him where we were off too....just 5 minutes from where we were picked up from he told us to get out....this didn't seem right so we put him back on track and so we carried on.......another 10 minutes down the road we got to the venue.....it was deserted!!! He was right it had been called off and had been relocated....great! So he took us back to where he originally dropped us off at....we got out and paid what was agreed....then the trouble started! He wanted more money....but matt wasn't going to let up...oh dear! Everyone was starring by now....what with the taxi driver trying to get matt back into the taxi to go to the police!! The horns of cars started getting louder as the road was blocked by the taxi....we made a run for it as soon as his back was turned....that was the end of our night!
It was a long walk back to our hotel so a nice walk along the beach would be nice....or so we thought! Jen was happily walking along until the light from a resort showed crabs were everywhere!!....all running sideways, as they do into holes in the sand....Jen was on a mission to get off the beach....whilst shrieking and dodging the crabs. We then realized we were lost....checking the map we had walked too far! Not ideal when I'm squeezing Matts arm every time I saw a crab! We finally made it back after what seemed a long night!!
We headed down to the beach the next day...after scouting out a spot without any sun beds we set up camp for the next few hours...feeling sticky and a bit sweaty (in matts case) we headed back to our room where we decided was the best place for us after the previous night.....so a take out of burger and chips were on the menu! An early night was had for an early morning start to make our way to Phuket....I don't think Koh Samui will be missed....
