So arriving in Singapore, it was hot, humid and very very clean.....hearing stories on our previous travels we were cautious and wary of their strict laws, eg chewing gum is illegal in this Country!! Jumping off the bus we picked up a New Yorker, who obviously had on idea where he was (thanks to our research the night before!) we made our way to the train station. Another story from our travels was being fined for eating or drinking on trains and in train stations......huh?! A lot of walking, standing and carrying our heavy backpacks we finally made our stop at Clarke Quay. A quick break before making another long walk to our hostel....we checked the directions and we were off again....Jen lead the way......up the escalators, up another set of escalators, cross the bridge to get to the other side of the road, back down some escalators, turn right and follow the flow of the traffic, cross a junction then take the second left down Hong Kong Street, then look for the yellow buliding, go up the to 3rd floor and we were at our hostel....easy! On arriving we were given a glass of cold water....just what we needed after that mission! Being showed around the hostel it was just like being in someones appartment, it was a dorm room for us for the next 2 nights. Jen claimed the top bunk, we slobbed out seperately on our beds....it had been a long day already. Feeling hungry we headed out on the hunt for food....trying to find somewhere as cheap as we had been used to throughout Thailand and Malaysia was proving difficult!! After filling our empty stomachs we took a wander to the river, it was night and all the lights looked amazing. Walking past all the bars, the cost of beers were double or even triple of what we were used to paying.......so there was no drinking for us! Everywhere was so pristine and nothing was out of place, no litter, no dirt, the air seemed clean with no pollution and everywhere looked so modern....were we really still in Asia?! It was a playground for the rich, bars and restuarants aplenty. Heading back to the hostel we were trying to decide what to do whilst we were in Singapore. Checking out the trips our hostel had on offer it was soon decided that Universal Studios had to be done! It was an early rise the next morning to make the most out of our day. Feeling tired after our first night in the dorm as someone decided to turn on the light and go through all their plastic bags loudly whilst others were trying to sleep, didn't have us in the best of moods! Though a quick breakfast of free tea, coffee, hot chocolate and toast with either butter, jam, peanut butter or chocolate spread.....yum! We headed to Sentosa Island, getting off the sky train we were fronted with the massive universal studios globe! Jumping the long ticket queues, thanks to our awesome hostel we were submerged into something Jen had never experienced! Were we still in Singapore?!.....we headed to our first show Monster Rock......singing and dancing monsters was what it was all about! We headed out of Hollywood into New York (no need for Jen to go to the real thing now, ha!) making our way to Sci Fi City and onto Transformers The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle!! We were sold and joined the queue to be told it was over an hours wait!.....unless we wanted to ride individually in which we would fill up any emtpy seats which was a 10 minute wait......it was an easy choice! So we kitted ourselves out with the 3D glasses and Matt was up first closely followed by Jen......getting into simulator type things that closed over your head with screens all around.......we were a transformer for the time we were in there......fighting the baddies and falling off a multi-storey building then being saved by bumble bee!.....riding round being jolted side to side turning from left to right.....Jen had to close her eyes and squeeze the rail in front a few times but all in all it was epic!! First ride down.....up next was the Battlestar Galactica, the rollercoaster in Sci Fi City.....apparently the worlds tallest duel riding rollercoaster.....one Human the other Cyclone......we opted for Human going for the high speed over the twists, turns, loop the loops......given Jens sick record! Waiting in line Jen was getting anxious....knowing what the result could well be. Finally it was our turn next....taking off out flip flops we got strapped in and off we went!.......20 seconds later we were back where we started, Jen feeling dizzy and sick.......great here we go.......grabbing our stuff from the lockers we made a quick dash to get some water and cool off in the shade......a bottle of water later it hadn't helped......feeling hungry we headed back to New York and grabbed somethig to eat. After a quick recovery from Jen, we made our way to Water World to see a stunt show.....feeling pumped up to see it and Matt getting quite excited, we felt there could have been more explosions, tricks, stunts and action. Though watching asian people getting soaked in the front rows made it for Jen! Next stop Far Far Away for the Shrek 4D Adventure.....set with our 3D glasses we took our seat and before we knew it we were off!.....rocking back and forth in our chairs, being sprayed with water and being tickled on our feet by 'spiders'......this was awesome!! Jen was gutted when it finished and we were back out into the heat......it felt we were in the middle of a Shrek film.....Jen was loving it! Having to talk her out of not buying a gingerbread man cushion was hard, though successful in Matts opinion! Going from Shrek to Madagascar for our next adventure on a river boat ride!......getting the front seat and feeling the excitement as we drifted our way through scenes from the film we were sure something had to happen soon! However before we knew it and still waiting.......we were getting out the boat and heading for the exit! Making our way back to New York for the Sesame Street street show with the Cookie Monster, Oscar and Bert.......Jen was enjoying herself though was wondering where was Elmo?! We left them doing their thing and made our way back to Sci Fi City ready for round two of the rollercoaster....Cyclones it was.......though Matt was a lone rider this time! Saving some money on the locker, Jen was being the bag lady! Matt feeling adrenaline pumped and Jen happy soaking up some sun, we be-lined for Revenge of the Mummy in Ancient Egypt.......Matt felt the benefits of being a loan rider.....jumping the half an hour queue and walking straight onto the ride, ha! Back to The Lost World we were ready to cool off on the Jurassic Park Rapids Adventure.....standing in the queue......asians were preparing themselves with their ponchos.....Jen started to get worried watching those getting off and assessing how wet they were....nothing to worry about according to Matt! So we jumped into the massive rubber ring and we were on our way......this wasn't so bad! They were saving the best till last!......anchored up towards a T-Rex we were waiting for the water to come down over us........oh how wrong we were........being dropped and plunging into the water was why people were wearing those ponchos!! Everything soaked! Who needs those human driers when your in Singapore ay! Drying off in the sun we decided to head back to our hostel....It was a night in for us after a long but awesome day!
The following morning was a nice easy one.....packing up our bags ready for our flight to Bali that night! Leaving our heavy backpacks at the hostel we decided to head out into the hot and humid city of Singapore....wandering around by the river we noticed something was going on in the distance. So we made our way over walking past one hell of a queue.....wondering what they were queuing up for, thinking it was the way to get into this fete looking event thing.......but no! This queue was for a bag of free goodys!! Damn we missed out on that one!! Walking through crowds of Singaporeans, past marquees selling and supporting all different kinds of things we had no idea what we had come across!.....finding a spot in the shade, we sat and watched the crowds of people with all their free goody bags......unbelieveable how many they were carrying and they were even on the look out for more!! Free Kit Kats were being given out......so Matt was there, barging past all the Singaporeans who werent far behind him! Being told he needed a ticket to be able to get the freebies, bummer! However it was his lucky day and the women let him have two chocolate cakes and some Kit Kats......yum! Heading out of the crowds and into the nearby shopping centre to cool off, we were shocked to see that right in the middle of it was a river with Gondolas just floating down it! Huh?! It was like Venice was inside it!! Anyways.....we carried on our walk tour of the city, being amazed by the architecture of some of the buildings.....one with a huge boat laying across the top of them, which Matt thought was awesome and couldnt get enough of it with the amount of photos he took!!
Making our way back to the hostel to collect our bags, we were back on the sky train and on our way to the airport! An hour later and we had finally arrived.....trying to work out which terminal we were at was difficult.....we had to get back onto a train to take us to where we needed to be, it was mission indeed! Eventually we had checked in and was chilling in the departure lounge......Bali here we come......but more importantly Geoff get the beers in!!!!
