So finally touching down on dry land after the boat ride from hell we were greeted to a man with a metal wheelbarrow thing.....so we dumped our bags down and off we went.....Koh phi phi has no roads so walking it was. A bungalow situated not far from the beach was our place for the next 3 nights....so our first stop......bed! The next thing we knew it was 2 hours later and thought it was time to explore the island. One street after another....it was like a maze (this didn't bode well with Jens lack of direction ability) but we soon found the beach. It was awesome! Just how you expect a beach to be.....white sand, blue sea, sun and bars.....this was it paradise! The night consisted of eating, drinking and planning our next day.....Matts plan was a boat tour, great! 8.45 the following morning and we were waiting to get onto another boat..
So we set off for our first destination 'the beach' beach.....sun was shining so it was going to be good! Until we hit the waves!!.....Sea sickness seemed to become a common feeling...
So the boat stops and we hear 'jump in and swim' okaay....so were in this alcove with the waves crashing against the rocks, this was just off where we needed to climb up the rope to get to the steps to get onto the island....sounded easy enough! Matt jumps in so up next, Jen (for those of you who know, isn't great in the water) grabbed a life jacket and jumped.....we finally reached the rope to grab hold of. Trying to hold onto the rope whilst the waves crash in was impossible....then climbing across the cargo net and up the steps we were knackered....but we had arrived on Maya beach! The beach and views were breathtaking....only problem were the tourists....and Jen was still getting over the experience of getting there.....but all in all the sun was shining, the sand was white and the sea was blue what more could you want! So our hour on the beach was nearly up, so we headed back to the steps to jump into the sea to our boat....
Only 5 minutes had passed....what was a clear sky turned into the biggest black cloud and within seconds rain started to fall and we were all shivering, debating what to do next....
Witnessing the waves crashing faster and bigger than before....do we just jump in and go for it or wait till it passed.....the latter seemed like a plan, however knowing the boat was our only way to get out of the storm, others started to take the plunge so there was no other option but to follow.....climbing down the steps onto the cargo net holding on for dear life whilst the waves crashed into us and onto the rocks.....Jen was first up and plucking up the courage to take the biggest leap into the rough sea....with matt shouting instructions 'wait....head for the middle where it's calmer.....push off from the rope.....wait.....wait......now go!' Jen had never swam as hard as she could....it seemed we were never going to reach the boat...but finally we clambered in and we had made it! It wasn't over yet!.....waiting for the other passenger to make the jump...we had to endure the choppy sea in our wooden longtail boat. Again, the feeling of sea sickness was back!
Finally we had everyone and we were on our way back....or so we thought! The boat driver takes us to another alcove for our snorkeling.....Matt made the plunge and got back into the sea...however not for seeing the fish but to feed the fish instead...(who knew fish liked to eat puke!) Anyways, we eventually started to head back to Koh Phi Phi....In our little cramped, uncomfortable boat we were literally riding the waves and getting soaked by them smashing into and over it.....so we finally get to the pier.....we grab our stuff and go, a walk back to our place still soaking wet and wrapped in a towel we hit the shower and bed! The rain continues so chilling was what we did for the rest of the day, night came and we dolled ourselves up and hit the bars on the beach! Relaxing on the beach on some cushions in front of a fire watching a fire show with our beers is what we longed for....watching people throw long sticks and chains with balls of fire into the air and catching them was amazing....next trick a skipping rope that was on fire which people could jump into and start skipping....get to 10 and it's a free vodka shot! Next thing you know matts up there skipping over fire and getting himself a free shot...haha! Unfortunately there's no photo evidence of this....sorry! Next stop was slinkys bar/club on the beach.....dancing on the beach with the sea crashing in...awesome! After a few beers we headed back and hit the sack.....one thing we missed though was a kebab!
The next day was another dull and wet one....so no beach for us, instead we decided to head up to the view point on the island, after hundreds and hundreds of steps and a steep climb we reached the top! The view was incredible....the boats looked like tiny dots and the sea was a clear blue. We rehydrated ourselves and headed back down...after a quick refresh we ventured back out to catch a film being shown on the rooftop of a Mexican bar.....we got comfy and ordered our food ready for The Beach to start.....a great way to spend our last night in Phi Phi....an early night was had ready for our next ferry trip to Ao Nang.....
