Today was a touring day. First Kay and I went to the flea market where we picked up some sweet stuff...I got a necklace with black beads and brown shells. One of the fun parts of the flea market is talking the vendors down. I got the necklace for 10 instead of 15 Euros, and struck a few other deals. At the flea market you really have to be looking for something in particular, so I'm not the biggest fan. It is something I'm glad I experienced, BUT it smells terrrrible and is really just a bunch of junk if you dont know what you're doing and there are a million people coughing and running into you..Its just not a comfortable place to be haha.
Anyway, after that we went out for Wiener Schnitzel and Goulash. I had my first real Wiener Schnitzel and it was not what I expected. It was like pork in a breading pocket, that is, the breading had separated from the meat...it was still tasty though! I put lemon on it and enjoyed it.
Then we made our way over to the Hofburg complex and on our way stopped at the biggest music store in town, Dobblinger. There was so much there, but it closed 5 minutes after we got there :( So we went over to the museum of ancient instruments, which was really neat. They had a huge collection of medieval instruments and Brahms and Schubert's pianos and weird innovations in music that never really took off. One of the coolest ones was the keyboard that had six layers and 31 pitches per octave, instead of the 12 we use today. That is because each flat, sharp, and natural was accounted for as a different pitch, which goes back to equal temperament and the development of a system at the beginning of the 18th century, and continued until the middle of the 19th. I also really enjoyed seeing some of the art pianos, like the Bosendorfer that was created for the worlds fair, with inspiration by the Musikverein, and the piano presented to an Austrian emporer (Joseph?) for 50 years in power at the end of the 19th century. Unfortunately, we were rushed out of the museum as it closed, but we were close to being done anyway...
So now we are hanging out watching tv and doing work to get ready for a crazy week ahead!!
