p.s. these pictures have nothing to do with my entries... i just need to pick one each day...so this one is of the vatican. enjoy.
today was HOT! it was around 90 degrees with the hottest sunlight! This morning I got up early so that I could go practice and beat the heat (we practice in an attic without air conditioning...killer) and I felt like I was at the beach. I sweat through a bit of practicing, but had to stop..my hands are giving me a bit of trouble, but no fear, i think its just a Mozart Fugue that I'm muscling my way through and I need to stop and rethink my approach. When I came back, I went to the national treasury with Kay and Alicia. It was really cool!! I hope i get to go to more museums like that in the next two weeks. I saw so much awesome stuff...robes worn for coronations and in courts and the crowns (!) and the largest emerald in the world! It was 2800 karats, and it was the size of two of my fists put together! I also got to check out some relics from the ecclesiastical treasury. The objects used in the church were beautiful! They housed things like a nail that pierced Jesus' hand on the cross, the lance that pierced Jesus' side, a bit of the building that held the manger, some thorns from Jesus' crown, pieces of the cross, a piece of jesus' loin cloth (although that seems kinda sacrilegious), a piece of the table cloth from the last supper and the weirdest was a black cloth in a frame. Apparently, Veronica (?) was one of the women who wiped Jesus' face during the crucifixion, and after she did, an imprint of his face appeared on the shroud. It was really scary to see. At first I didn't see it, but then it popped out at me, and I had to walk away because I got really freaked out. I couldn't even think about taking a picture, as I had of most other things. I just felt like it was Jesus watching me, judging me...thats scary! It was clear as day, and I hope its real, or else I look really stupid, but it was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen if it is real. I don't know where they got these relics, but I thought it was pretty awesome to see artifacts from one of the most important aspects of my life. That was quite a moment. Also, we saw the "most important" embroideries of the church or something, worn at all coronations and major events in the church. There was so much information and so much history!!! I wish i could remember all of it! But i have pictures so that will help me!
Tomorrow starts the last real week of classes before finals and concerts kick off...hopefully we will get some rain so that things cool off a bit! Happy Sunday... I miss everyone! More later!
