Loooong day! It's my roommate, Alicia's, 20th birthday! We celebrated with Gelatto tonight...I used my German skills, thanks to a class that moves at about a chapter every other class period. It's pretty intense for someone who's really not used to learning languages, and as you might guess, I'm not having much success! haha oh well. Everyone speaks English here anyway. Is that terrible of me?

So today was a real taste of how classes are going to be. In short: long. German is four 1.5hour sessions Monday through Thursday, History is 1.5 hours on Monday, 2 on Tuesday and 3 on Wednesday. That is a lot of history. Fortunately, Tuesdays are excursion days where we go out into Vienna and learn firsthand (ours was the trip to the piano place) Performance workshop is the same as history, but the Wednesday time slot is held on Thursday instead.

Today's history class was so long, and I was glad that I had 2 years of theory going into it. We analyzed patterns in classical music form and took an in depth study, analyzing 2 sonatas by Mozart and Haydn. They were brilliant. I learned that classical form is not a cookie cutter way of putting music together, yet some aspects are expectations of the time. What happens in between is where Beethoven, Mozart and Haydn pull away from the rest of the pack and show off their genius. After this class, I think i will be very convinced to believe that Classical music is the most perfect form, and I'm okay with that!

Our apartment is really cool...the girls are all really hard working and talented, but we also know how to have fun. Our landlord's assistant lives right next to us and his name is Dieter. We think he hates us because we ask the dumbest questions! We will come to him with a problem like, we cant turn the TV on, its broken, and he will come in and turn in on and say "Like this?" and he sounds like Arnold Schwarzenegger. he also says the word "like" a lot when he talks, like we used to get yelled at for doing in 4th grade. We get the biggest kick of him and one of the girls does the funniest imitation of him.
